LORD'S PRAYER

Siggie is only 2, but will be 3 the last of March.
She is learning the Lord's Prayer. She said it
for Pop and me last evening 'Our father are in
heaven, give us steak and bread...'

Whiffs of Pink!

Another photo while walking in

the meadow. Cold again, but I

am trying not to sass about it.

Tuesday, January 29, 2008

Pretty enough for any yard.

Took this on my walk to the lake. Patsy will
know the name. I just thought it was pretty.

Decided I was not THAT cold!

I have been gripping about cold weather and

someone sent me this...well, I am going to

shut up.

John Crownover!

Larry stumbled across this grave in the
forest in the Ouchita Mountains...His
was the only grave. A county south of
Yell ...Larry said he would like to be buried
beside John, but I don't think I will be able
to find the spot again!

March Coming

All the month of March I have FEDERAL jury duty.
I have had local jury duty twice, but never Federal.
I will have to travel to Little Rock when called that
month. They will pay me 40 dollars plus milage.
I looked all through the form, and there was no way
to get out of it. I am not supposed to have to go more
than 4 times unless, I am chosen for duty and I will
have to attend the entire trial. When I had local duty,
I always knew the folks on trial and was dismissed.
Most the younger folks, I had taught...I will not be
as lucky in Little Rock. I am hoping Larry will go with
me and read while I am in court.

January about over--I'm Glad!

This is our little snow from early Jan.
Friday we had ice. But mostly is has
been 'colder than a blue goose' as Patsy
says. It should get 60 today. Maybe Laura
and I can go to Bona Dea and walk the long
trail. Fleta is going back up on top of the
rock quarry to walk today so she can find
her hat she lost up there yesterday...when
she was wondering around 4 hours...lost.
I will not get lost at Bona Dea..there are
road signs.

Foreign Object in Sky

At 2:00 today this appeared in Galla Sky!

Perspective!

In politics you can sometimes be an insider...
it should give the runner an advantage. Well,
this is what it is like being on the inside. You
don't know about what is going on on the outside.
You can only see the world through your own
little angle. G. W. Bush is on the inside. Who
ever is our next President....I truly hope SHE
will be an outsider with a clear view of the world!

Mother

My mother would have been 87 today...
But she is gone. She only made it to 71.
And that was a struggled goal. I wish
she had known my little grand girls..
Astrid, Ingrid, Sigrid. I wish she had
known that Erin grew up and now is
going to have a baby of her own...little
Clayton. Somethings tho' are better
that she is not here to hurt for. Like
Helen being ill. And many other sad
events--Gilbert not being with his
babies. Oh, well, she'd say everything
happens as planned. Today I miss my Mother.
She was never disappointed in any of her
children. She loved us completely.
What a wonderful Mother she was!

Siggie's in the Lord's Army!!

Siggie is dancing and singing in her pjs!

Special Baby--Special Bed!

Garrison Couples when old

Pete and Sarah Standridge Garrison
when old.
Charley and Bess Standridge when old.
Charley and Pete were brothers. Sarah
was Bess' Aunt. Bess and Sarah were
Standridges!

Here are the pictures to solve the mystery.

Photo we think is of Garrison Grandparents

This is from the group picture that I know is
Garrison family. His wife is Bess Standridge
and she is somewhere in the picture.
I always thought the lady with the parted hair
was Bess Standridge. Her aunt married her
husband's brother....so I am wondering if
this is her. I don't think the lady with the
parted hair is Bess anymore....but she is
in the Standridge group photo.
Group Garrison photo. I thought the man with his arms
over his chest was Charley Garrison's father. He married
a young woman just before Charley married Bess. I thought
that might be Charley's father and his step mother on the
front roll left side.
This is the Standridge group photo the same
day as the Garrison one. Why? Same material
in the dresses the ladies have on. I know some
of the folks in the photo. There are too many
people for it just to be James K. Polk Standridge's
family. So the lady with the parted hair might
be his sister who married the brother of Charley?

Mystery!

Larry's Grandparents are in the group
photo that has 3 couples in it. I was told this
by the person who gave it to me. The family
group photo without couples is the bride's
family--James K. Polk Standridge Family--
but there are some extra folks in the picture.

I have been trying to figure out who the
young couple is in the photo another relative
sent. He said he thought it was the same
couple. Here is the mystery--who is the
couple that looks like a charcoal painting.
Could the couple in the back be the old
man and woman that I have when they
are old. That couple is the charcoal painting
guy's brother. Well, look and see if you
can help me figure out who the painting is
of...from the other photo?

My Flock

Most of my chickens came from Sister Patsy,
but Brother hatched them for us in his
incubator. He has one of those huge ones
that cost a bunch. He bought it at a estate
sale for a $100. I think he said. The picture
of the three chickens shows a Rhode Island
Red Bantie--Patsy ordered these from a
hatchery--I love her. She lays a light brown
egg that is bigger than the mixed bantie's
eggs. The other two chickens in the photo
with her are two of my old hens. The little
bb hen is old--probably 6 to 8 years old. The
little white hen is over 5 years old. I like both
of them....so I just keep them. I think they still
lay. Another of the photos shows the rose comb
rooster that is mean! Patsy said to chop his head
off, but I have not gotten up my nerve yet!

So here is my flock. I took 4 dozen eggs to a
cousin in town yesterday. She begged to pay me
for them, but I only give my eggs away!

Bird on a Wire--Watching the Sky!

Like a bird on a wire
Like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free.

Leonard Cohen

Why would a bird perch on a little
wire...when they could hide in a tree?
'Cause they want to see and be seen
And be able to fly a path open and free!

Live your life like a bird on a wire!

Crazy Quilt!

I love this quilt that Patsy made and showed
to us. It is so neat. I have never made a quilt.

Memories of the Creek!

Above it sings the whippoorwills.
In years gone by it heard the squeal
Of childrens merry laughter peal,
As they would skip and slip and slide,
And watch the sunlit fishes glide
Over rocks and down the sandy side
Of the banks of the stream where the children bide
Their time on shimmering, summer days
And splash and play in the summer haze.

But a single strand of memory frays
And breaks the bonds of bygone days.
On the banks of the creek no one stays
Where the children played in the summer haze,
They all grew up and moved away
From the banks of the creek and children's play.
But sometimes, on a sunlit summer day,
Surely, thoughts return and memories stray
To the banks of the creek and children's play,
On a shimmering, sunlit summer's day.

Creek days were even better than those at the Old Pond bank!

Company!

We had an overnight guest last night.
Poppa and his guest planned a day on
Tuesday going squirrel hunting somewhere.

We played Do You Know As Much as a 5th
Grader, ate ice cream and watched cartoons.
We had a wonderful night.

Memories of the Pond

Maybe me, Sis, and Brother will go
To the creek and spend a day
Chasing after crawdads, or on
The pondbank's slippery clay.
They say I can't go home again
But maybe "they" don't know
If I close my eyes and drift
Just where my memories let me go.

Red Sky in Morning!!!

Matthew 16: 2-3
He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

Bull #@$!

I think most of politics is bull! I do
vote but I am just a pessimist and
think we have fell so deep into a
mirey hole that we will never climb
out and see the sun shine again.

Back to work today

I will not walk to the meadow today as it
will be my first day back at work. We have
had a nice long break so I will go along without
crying too loudly.

Rules for teachers 1915

Grandma was a teacher. She married in 1911...so
I guess it was 1910 and maybe into 1911 before
she married Grandpa. After that it was like Sister
Patsy said, Grandma's life was ruled by Grandpa;
she had no decisions to make. Thelma said he
even picked out her dresses. Here are some rules
for women teachers in 1915. This came with my
retirement information this week. I will shorten
some of the sentences...but here goes
1. You will NOT marry during your contracted term.

2. You WILL not keep company with men.

3. You must be home from 8 at night until 6 in the
morn unless you are at a school function.

4.You MAY not loiter at an ice cream store.

5. You can not leave this town without permission
of the school board.

6. You may not ride in a carriage with any man
excepting your father or brother.

7. You may not smoke cigarettes.

8. You may not dress in bright colors.

9. You may not dye your hair.

10. You must wear at least 2 petticoats.

11. Your dress may not be shorter than 2
inches above your ankle.

Auntie Erin Christmas

Erin and Greg came down yesterday and those
Christensen girls had Christmas again! Laura
has told us to get them only one gift each and
Erin says...maybe she will...next year.

Erin is sick a lot. I keep thinking she will get
over the morning sickness all day...but so far
not so.

Biscuits

Greg and Erin are on their way down for
a Christmas visit. Greg said he had a cravin'
for biscuits, sausage and gravy. I was mixing
up the biscuits and thought I would 'pinch'
them off rather than roll them out. Patsy
could always pinch off the biscuits. Folks
pinched off biscuits if they were in a hurry.
Well, I have them on the stove waiting to
cook and if they are good I will take a photo
of Greg eating one just for Patsy. It sure
was faster than rolling them out...but Pat
it was sort of messy!

It is really cold here 21 degrees.

Pile of Rocks

Climbing to the top of a pile of rocks is

often worth it as you have such a view

of the world below.
