Daniel Boone

Well, Daniel Boone Jones that is!

Not As Much As Fleta

We did get 3 or 4 inches of snow and a layer of ice and sleet beneath. Fleta says they got a foot! I am glad she won the snow most contest! I would rather be last.

Sleet has ended!

But now it is snowing!

Special Gift

I hung my calendar by my bedside. It will be the first thing I see in the morn and the last thing at night. I will look each day to see who was born, died or married. I will think of them for a little while before I rise.

View of Pond

Some ducks flew into our pond for a drink of water. You can see Laura's garage in the distance. It is 31 here. Ice and a little snow but it is still falling.

Snow and Ice Today

But flowers are on their way!

February

I am thinking next month we can plant onions, potatoes, cabbage. Spring is just around the corner, but I guess an ice storm is coming our way tonight. Snow storm for Clayton.

Blogging Directive

Even the Pope is asking the Catholic Priests to blog. I listen to NPR radio. A good blog must be DAILY. So I have failed here on my family blog. Our Dog blog has passed with flying colors. We have blogged daily since 2006. 1000s of photos of Feists are there and if one searches at google for Feist or squirrel dog or any related subject, Galla Feist Blog will often appear in the hits. Over 150,000 have visited our dog blog and the visits come from all over the world.

I apologize for not being a good family blogger. Fleta, you are a failure too! Only Patsy and Helen are passing the test according to NPR. Well, maybe someday, Fleta and I will do better--like when we retire and have more time at home.

Momma

Momma would be 89 today. I miss her.
This about sums her up!
To see Mama in the kitchen
Doing what she loved to do,
To help her if she'd let me,
But she didn't want me to.
F. Aday--the night Momma passed.

How Dinosaurs Became Extinct

Someone shared this with me and I really like it. Glad he got humans on the ark or we would not be here today!@

Nothing Much Changes

Health care started out like one of those big balloon bouquets filled so tight with air that they will fly away if you don't hang on tight to all the strings. The democrats held so tight to the strings they lost sight of the balloons and Republicans got near and pushed a little pin hole in each one....slowly the entire big lively bouquet has lost it's lustre a now has landed square in a mud hole. You may be surprised but I am not.

Good Day

Today I looked out after getting up and having already consumed a pot of coffee, I thought...this is probably where I will die. Erin thinks I will live forever so it will be a long time from now. I like living here and when spring comes I will like it more.

Astrid stayed overnight and we will go to Sunday school and church soon. I checked 3 blogs this morning and I hit the jackpot...Sister 1 posted about the Sheriff of Helen's County, Sister 2 posted pictures of home, and Sister 4 was sentimental and showed a clock Mom gave her. I don't have a photo to post, but it is a good day because each of my Sisters said hello today. I hope we can continue sharing bits of what we enjoy the rest of our lives.

When one gets older things get slower. Things we enjoy are weird I am sure to the youngsters. Patsy wants to read the latest in the news. Helen wants to check on her grandgirl. Fleta is remodeling for old age. I enjoy a real newspaper in the morning. i thought I could read it on the computer...just not the same. I conned the AR Demo Gazette boy to bring the paper to my door. It is a good way to start the day. Look at national news, AR news, ads, and clip coupons...while on the second pot of coffee but don't tell Erin!

Have a good day Sisters!

Arkansas Democrat Gazette Postcard--1-15-10

This is Clayton Jones' great great uncle and aunt-- Uncle Uvene Jones and Zephie Marsh Jones, who ran the station and small grocery store. They lived in the back of the store. The photo was in the Gazette today. I love the old postcard thing they run and always look. Wow, today had Clayton's relatives in the paper.

Can Bake a Pie

Larry's favorite 2 pies are raisin and lemon. He likes raisin pie like Momma made it.
Granny Renfroe made it the same way. Bring a cup of raisins to boil in small pan. Only put enough water to come to the top of the raisins. Turn off and let sit while you mix one egg yolk, half cup of sugar, 2 T of corn starch and some pet milk to make it creamy. Mix this in the hot raisin mixture. It will thicken and look like cream pie with raisins in it. Bake like a 2 crust pie in the oven. I put the oven on hot--425 and then when the crust on top is a little brown I turn it down to 350. I don't keep this pie in the frig. Maybe I should.

To make lemon pie i buy a lemon mix. One you have to cook. I like to buy a crust. They are very thin and work well with lemon pie. I make my meringue by beating the 3 egg whites left over from the yolks in the pie. I add a dash of salt and a little cream of tartar, but after it gets almost whipped I add a corn starch mixture that I have cooked into the meringue. It is 1 teaspoon of corn starch to an 1/8 cup of water heated in the micrawave until it is thick. I use about a 1/3 cup of sugar in the meringue. This will not run egg whites. I brown the meringue in a slow oven so it can cook.

I am not a very good cook....but I can make lemon pie and raisin pie.

Warmer

It has finally gotten up to almost 50 degrees today....but it was dreary and rainy and felt about 30 outside.

Picture of Pond

Took this out the back door. The pond is frozen and the frost glistens but my cheap camera can't capture it.

Better Weather Coming

I am happy that better weather is on the way. It was 11 here this morning but should get above freezing today. It got above freezing here yesterday, but I want weather in the 50s. Now that would feel like summer.

I am thankful that Kelly got his mother a new computer. I wonder when I get old my girls would do that for me.

Colder than a Blue Goose

Colder than a blue goose and I still have blessings today.
Hope you do too.

No Snow

The snow went north of us. I think it got Patsy, Fleta and Erin and I know that Winnie is snowed in. I understand why Aunt Fleta and Uncle Harold wanted to move to Florida. Well, this year it is freezing there too!

Extra Vacation Day

We got enough snow and ice that school is closed. I always try to remember that I will be going in June to make up for this day. Fleta is 62 today. Maybe she got a day off too!

Happy Birthday, Fleta!

Fleta has a birthday in a few days. She will be old--62. I remember the day we killed this black snake behind the old barn. I hope this is a good year for you Fleta. If I could give you something special it would be a peaceful, worry-free year.

2010

Back when I was a kid, I never thought I would make it until 2010. Thought the world as we know it would be extinct. But here we are and I have 4 great reasons to look forward to this year.
