New Curtains

I got curtains for my living room. I really like them as my favorite color is brown. I got the same ones for our den but just used the little valance on 3 of the windows and on the 4th (yes, the room has 4 windows) I hung the longer ones because the sun hits that window in the winter when there are no leaves on the Maple tree to the side of the house. This brown paneling is in the entire house.

Cooling Off

Siggie invited Granny over to the pool. I enjoyed watching her and staying cool. I am getting new glasses in a week. I can't wait. Siggie said to take my glasses off when I got in the pool but I told her without them I could not see!

Sister Fleta--Can't Top This

My Crepe Myrtles are absolutely beautiful. I know Fleta does not have a rose or bush this lovely?

Day Lily Flower Bed

Larry finished my Dily Lily Flower bed. I had bought these about a month ago on clearance. I hope they are easy to maintain. They are called Forgotten Dreams. I bought 12 of them for a dollar each. The Hummingbirds will like the red mulch and next year the red Lilies.

Blueberry Buckle

Girls, you should know I looked for an easy recipe. There a bunch where you mix up the cake but I wanted one using a cake mix--
melt half a stick of margarine in a 9 by 13 glass cake pan
Add one large can of crushed pineapple
Add 3 cups of blueberries\sprinkle the blueberries with sugar (about 1/4 to 1/2 cup)
Put dry cake mix over the fruit
Dab other half of the stick of margarine on top
Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes

When the Buckle has cooked 25 minutes open the over and mix the cake with the fruit with a spoon--mix until you don't see any dry cake mix!
Sure was rich!!

Blueberry Buckle

I had some blueberries left and I made Blueberry Buckle. It is sort of like cake and sort of like cobbler. It was good but too rich for me as it made me a little stomach sick.

Books on One Shelf

The first book is Iwo Jima, second one is a book to help write letters, then Philo and Josephus, the next book was Grandpa Powell's ,and Patsy gave it to me, then Matthew Henry's concordance (it is also good), then Hailey's Bible Handbook (you can look up anything in the Bible in this, I like it too. Then another Grandpa Powell book, then two Bibles (the last one is a Rainbow study Bible and the thicker one is a Thompson Nelson Study Bible, and the little blue book between is an OLD Arkansas History that they were throwing away at school. I think it's from the 1950s. The first book of Grandpa Powell's is really a good one. It is Life on the Highest Plane by Ruth Paxton. I have read and studied the entire thing. I really love it. She divides man into 3 groups. I am a carnal Christian, but hope to one day be a spiritual one.

Today

95 today!

Family Photos

A girl Laura went to school with took family photos--these have proof written across them but I told Laura I would share them. Then I had to call Fleta to remember how to get a picture that was protected. The one with the girls with their 'head together' is good but Astrid has her eyes closed. Helen, if you want to see them all I bet Laura would email you the site! There is a real good one of Eric and Laura, but I figured she would not want me swarm you with pictures.

Flower Garden Ornaments

This is the bird wind chime I got from Erin and Greg and Clayton for my birthday. I bought the tree cross and welcome sign at Hobby Lobby.
There are Suprise Lilies around the tree in one of my flower beds. I knew they were there, but when they pop up and bloom they are a pleasant surprise anyway.
I like this pink moss and just bought one little pot. Sisters do you remember Momma having it in that washer in the front yard. I remember and I thought it was so pretty.
This is my tree cross.

Bird Feathers

Larry was fishing at Galla Lake and saw the little bird looking for something to eat. He caught it by putting salt on its tail (just kidding). I called Laura to see if Eric and the girls wanted it. Conversation went like this
Larry found a parakeet and I wondered if Eric and the girls wanted it.
Laura says -- No.
I said can I ask Eric.
Laura says -- No, we do not want a bird.
I put it on the feeder and it ate a lot. It was there all evening but this morning it was gone. No feathers around just gone. We don't have cats.

If I were up in Sister country....I might have talked Patsy into taking the little darling. There are no houses near the Lake so I don't know where it came from. Looks like it would have had to come a long ways!

New Bird At My Feeder

Okay, Fleta can not top this bird that was at my feeder today!!! I hope it will stay around here!

Sunset

My summer is setting. Looked on the calendar and in 3 weeks I will be back to work! I have had a good summer. We have accomplished a lot.

Patsy says...........

Sister says my caterpillar is a Hyalophora cecropia caterpillar!

E Gads!!

Larry said this is a caterpillar. It is huge. I got this little measure stick out of my sewing machine so you could see how big it was. I had never noticed what the ruler said until today. I don't remember where I got it but probably have had it since I went to School of the Ozarks in 1968. Momma bought be a singer sewing machine in a case to take to college with me. I made my own clothes. Mostly with no patterns because I did not have enough money to buy patterns.

Okra's Blooming

Today we have okra blooms finally. Okra is one of Larry's favorite things from the garden. We did not really enjoy okra in north Arkansas when I was growing up. I like it okay, but in the deeper south folks really love okra. Larry can eat it pickled but fried is his favorite. He will make a sandwich out of the cold okra from the ref. He said growing up he put okra that Granny left on the table on a biscuit and made a sandwich. Things probably tasted better then, but he still enjoys it today.

Homegrown Tomaters

Homegrown tomaters, homegrown tomaters
What'd life be without homegrown tomaters
There's only two things that money can't buy
That's true love and homegrown tomaters.
When I die don't bury me
In a box in a cold dark cemetery
Out in the garden would be much better
Where I'd be pushin' up homegrown tomaters!

Been Busy

This is the only bed I have finished.
I bought Day Lilies to go around two of the trees probably not the two in the photo as that is where the bird feeders are. I may just put Monkey Grass around these two.

Larry is making me flower beds around some of our trees. I am putting Periwinkles in the two 8 sided beds. It is late in the year and they stand the heat pretty well.
My Crepe Myrtle has even more blooms because we finally got a little rain.
This is the carport we moved farther from the house. You can see the tree I thought was a plum is an apple. It is loaded with apples. I have two of these trees both loaded. I don't know what kind of apples they are.
