Times Have Changed

What Tree Is This?

I have lots of different trees, but don't know what this one is. I remember Larry's Mom planting it. Look at the close up of the leaves and tell me what it is?

Gum Tree by our Pond

Nothing prettier than a Gum in the fall. They turn almost maroon. I can't recall if these are Sweet or Black Gum. Patsy will know.

Color Plate

Fall Trees

The possums love this tree and once it frosts I can eat some of this fruit too. I have heard folks made cookies and bread with persimmons.

One of My Maples

The Ash leaves just fall and leave a ugly skeleton, but the Maple shines in the fall.

Question for Helen

Helen, what kind of flower is this?

Sunday, October 17, 2010

Making Do

I bought these flowers in one of those cheap plastic pots. I had this old bucket and punched holes in the bottom with a nail and put my flowers in it. It looks much better than the plastic one.

Black Squirrel

Patsy, this is a black squirrel. Did you ever see one up home? Our little friend killed this one south of Ft. Smith--I think it was.

Lifeguard

I don't think the lifeguard is paying much attention to the pool--looks like she is texting.

My Guineas

I have a small group of kids at school that I meet with everyday. I am a part parent to them. I am supposed to check on their grades, behavior, etc. and try to keep them moving forward. Teachers over the school hand out boo boo slips when these kids get in trouble and I get them. In turn, my job is to try to help them fix their behaviors etc. When the child gets 4, I send them to the asst. principal for a punishment. One young man has gotten 4. Each time he gets a demerit he argues about not deserving it or denies the behavior completely. I have counseled him on keeping his mouth shut when someone gets on to him. When he mouths to me, I say 'zip it' and he does. Other teachers argue back! The thing grows like Momma's yeast rolls and he gets a boo boo slip. On 3 and 4 boo boos, I am to call the parent. I called on 3 and got a machine and told the machine all about what was going on. Well, the next day he got number 4 and I called and got Dad. Dad spent about 10 minutes arguing with me about all these teachers not calling him when his son got a boo boo slip. I finally told him that I did not know the answer to his question, but I would be sending his son to the office for his punishment and I closed my conversation by saying....I now understand why your son argues with his teachers!

Helen and Eldred

Click on the image and it will be larger. This is Aunt Helen and Beans Garrison.

Aunt Thelma

Erin is taking care of Aunt Thelma's neighbor, the one who found her when she had the stroke. As you can guess, all her neighbors loved her as we did. He told about her going to Jacksonville, N C to see Bob when he was in the Navy. She got off the plane in Jacksonville, Florida. It was a long route to finally get where she meant to go. He still had the biggest laugh about it and that was probably 25 years ago. Of course, Thelma told this tale on herself. One who can laugh at oneself is always a little healthier.

Texas Blue Bells

The Blue Bells along this Texas Highway (Highway 306 from New Braunfels to Purgatory Road to Canyon Lake Highway 71 from Austin to Brady) are beautiful, but Texas say don't stop to pick any!
