Company Coming Down the Road

My cousins Rick and Debby from Florida came to see me yesterday! We had a great visit! Thought about the old Porter Waggoner song!  There's company comin' up the road! They have a handicapped son, Roy. We can’t get him in my house so we sat on my porch to visit. Roy was nearby in their car.

I want to my provider yesterday and requested rehab for my knee. I am quite low as I really can’t walk. Maybe this will help. I injured my knee Oct. 3. But I keep trying to do strenuous things and have set backs. I’m trying to be good and idle. It’s very hard for me.

Trees are really pretty this year.  Full moon arising! Three things cannot long be hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.  Confucius

My shed is filled with Bermuda grass hay. Hope it’ll be enough for the entire winter.

Hiking the Goat Trail

Astrid, Laura and their friend Faith hiked the Big Bluff Rim Trail above the Buffalo River this weekend. It’s called Goat Trail and goes along a narrow ledge taking you out onto Big Bluff. The name Goat Trail comes from the feral descendants of domesticated goats early pioneers brought to the area. They either escaped or were just let go and multiplied in the Bluffs. It’s not a hike for the elderly or young children. Laura said the trees were beautiful and the Arkansas Elk Herd was spectacular to see.

The only way to continue to the finish was going through this hole in the rocks just like the goats did 100 years ago.
They had to crawl through this hole in the rocks at one point. A fat person would have had to turn around and go back how they came.

I would have loved to be able to see the things they saw. Astrid took lots of pictures so I could envision the hike!

First Frost

Astrid and Sigrid bested their last year Halloween outfits. They performed as men on ice from “Blazes of Glory”  ðŸ¥¶❄️kick ice🥶❄️

Ada before church today. She is the opposite of Greta. She loves dressing up as much as Greta loves sports. Ada would love nothing more than to wear glittery dresses to school.  Greta has started basketball and is playing on the wing, 3 spot. I hope she has a great year.
Last night we had our first frost, but it’s sunny and nice now.
Greta is helping feed her family. This is a young Buck and will not be tough. Greg makes hamburger out of all the meat and he has them add some pork/beef fat when they pkg it. He and I used to grind it ourselves. It was a huge project and I don’t really care for deer, but many in my family love it.Greta sent me this text “I got my first buck this morning at 207 yards! Dad said that’s really good. I aimed at the back and it dropped two inches and hit both of his shoulders”!!  Sounds to me like she’s not finished🤣

I picked up the walnuts under my two trees. I guess it irritated my knee. I am having navigation problems again. Fleta advised me to rake them up and then sit in my chair and put them in the wheelbarrow. I have to pick them up as they’re a hazard and could make me trip. I wish I could just have them cut. My last tree cutter tinned out to be a crook. I’ll need to find someone trustworthy.

This is my brother Gilbert’s daughter. She’s a psychology councilor.  I thought her scarecrow outfit was cute.

Haunted House

The Nursing Homes where Ada lives invite children to come and trick or treat. 👻 it’s a very safe place to take children. One nursing home had a haunted house set up. Ada will remember her 6th Halloween. Erin is tired at the end of the day and told Greg she thought it’d be ok to just skip going this year. Greg said “no”. I’m sure Erin was happy when it was over.
I saw Greta’s picture on the Harrison High site.

Astrid is having a little party tonight and she said they take the child on a wagon ride over my way.

Halloween Fun

Old Spice and Wonder Bread

Sigrid and Liz at UAMS Pharmacy School say “ shake and bake”!

Astrid dressed for work as herself—Corgi Mom.
Greta is Dora the Explorer.

Erin had to alter Ada’s policeman outfit so she could go to the bathroom unassisted!

Ingrid is a pink lady from Grease at work today.

Princess Fiona is heading to Dardanelle Intermediate this morning.

Ingrid has made some new friends where she works. She’s coming November 15 and we’ll have Thanksgiving early. I’m to make dressing and mashed potatoes.

I notice every morning Manchi and Whiskey go to the fence and visit our neighbor horses. They stand there for 30 minutes peering at each other! Love your neighbor!

Purse for Fleta

Fleta wanted another smaller crocheted purse. It’s double thread cotton with one continuous thread so they are no connections to separate with age.
Yesterday I attended a coffee with others who had retired from the school I taught at—39 years. Each had tales of cancer, tumors, diabetes, joint replacement, dementia and deaths, but also everyone was involved in projects to give back to the less fortunate! We may try to meet again as there were many who we would like to see again. It was an inspiring event…I feel I do so little for others.  Nearly everyone does things for family, but my friends were involved In outreaches to help others! I’m a dud.

Groundsel

The white plant is a Groundsel Bush I think. It’s a member of the Aster family. It’s called salt Myrtle because it is hardy and sea water doesn’t kill it. I think it’s amazing a coastal bush grows in Arkansas. The second picture is my neighbor’s Red Maple. By the time it all turns red the top will be almost bare.

Run, Run! See Opie Run💚

Opie running in the Meadow made me think of the old Dick and Jane books.

Run, run, see Opie run!

October 27

Bees like Astrid’s Cosmos’ blooms.
We had a rainy weekend.  In fall the vegetation still needs moisture. We received about 3/4 an inch.
I finished a baby blanket. I am tired of hearts. I’m working on a granny square one now.
Looks like Logan and Astrid will have to pardon two turkeys.
One of Eric’s students presented him with this gift. He is bald. 👨‍🦲

My Greta is 15❣️

Greta chose Red Lobster as her place for dinner for her birthday. She likes shrimp. Dessert was ice cream, her favorite dessert. Today her Mom is fixing chicken fried steak for the family. Her birthday cake is carrot. 🥕. I have blogged all Greta’s life and can look back at every birthday. A hearing device in each ear doesn’t slow her down. She loves church, sports, school! She’s the all around American girl. She’s in the honor society and loves her little sister. She can shoot a gun like a pro. She’s won shooting contests against men. I am proud of her and I am a member of her Greta Fan Club. Blessed birthday, Greta.
