Green Forest 1927
I wish Patsy would tell us about what she remembers Dad telling about this tornado. I know the chicken house was blown off the foundation. I recall that Daddy said they left the house and took refuge in a ditch. Was their house destroyed and they stayed in the chicken house? Sisters...what to you remember. Winnie Jo what do you know about this 1927 disaster?
the family spent time living in the chicken house. grandma said she would take their covers in the morning and shake the snow off them. after the first tornado in a week or less another storm passes over them and grandpa had them leave the chicken house and take cover in 3 large trees that blew over in the yard.
ReplyDeletedad said they had a few turkeys and they were blown away a week later they came walking home.
Mom used to say that Grandma put them all huddled under a feather mattress...she remembered how vivid it was that their whole house blew away but they were all saved...
