Corn

I picked 2 wheel barrows full of corn. I have cut it off the cob and put it in the freezer. If it had rained it would have been even better. I took about 30 ears sacks to 6 of my neighbors and gave Laura several sacks for her to share with her friends. I left one row because Erin and Clayton are coming this weekend. We will pick it then.

I cut the corn off outside. Put a quart of corn in a GLASS bowl and microwaved for 3 minutes. Put that in a qt. freezer bag. Put that in cool ice water. Put in the freezer. It sure looks good. Daddy did not blanch his corn, but I was afraid to do that.

Crepe Myrtle

My Crepe Myrtle is starting to bloom. I hope the entire thing will be covered. The fragrance is pleasant, too.

Raining a little as we speak

Tried to get a picture of the hummingbird. Zoomed in with my cheap camera and got a cheap picture. The top one is the girls before we drove up for Clayton's big bash. They are now 10, 8 and 5. Growing up so fast. I am getting a little rain now. Maybe it will help my tomatoes and okra. The rest is charred.

This is Clayton's cake. We are going up today for his big party. I will take some pictures if I can remember to take my camera. Every boy who loves dirt needs a wheelbarrow! Hope he likes it. He can push Greta down Harrison Hill in it.

Siggie Saga

Siggie came over this afternoon and bought this jar half full of lemonade. She bragged that she made it all by herself homemade. Since it is pink, I suspect it is countrytime. Lemonade from a pkg. has too much acid for Larry. Siggie drank about half of what she brought over right from the jar. She played with the little puppy and after a while she said "Pop, that lemonade is not free. You have to pay for it." He took out his billfold and gave her $5.00. Since he is the best Grandpop in the world. Siggie went home quickly after that. We could see her out sitting on a rock by her road with a sign. I don't know if she sold any to passersby. I am sure they did not pay $5.00 for her to drink it.

New Cleaner

I first heard of this from Sister Helen. Then I saw a program about Mr. Dyson and his inventions. The vacuum is expensive and I am poor. I saw it at Home Depot for 439. Lowes matches prices and since it was cheaper at the other store they took another 10 per cent off. The other vacuum I have is a Eureka. Well, the first time I used the new cleaner that bucket filled completely up with dust and debris. There is no comparison in the cleaning power of the two vacuums. Queen Clean Helen knows cleaners!

ID this Bird

Astrid and I found this bird. It's wing was hurt a bit but I think it finally took flight. We steered it away from the dogs. Took pictures and studied the bird book Larry got for his birthday from Laura and Eric. We just weren't sure. We think it is a baby maybe? What might it be. Astrid could see a little yellow color under the gray.

Fire that Sucker!

The President fired McChrystal. To save money he also laid off cattle guards in Colorado. (probably not true) but I thought it was ironic. McC and the cattle guard may have something in common. Sitting around and waiting for action? Both in the sun with lots of time on their hands. Biden says the guards need to keep getting pay for six months if they are laid off!

Hog's Head

We are selling one pup down in the swamps of LA. The buyer sent this picture of a hog head skeleton he found on his place. Ye Gads! I want my little Feist to be kept in a pen down there. Do you remember that huge hog Daddy killed one year. Yes, he is dead! My garden is almost dead, too. Larry hauled water in the bucket of the backhoe and watered my tomatoes and okra and new squash plants. The first ones died. My tomatoes have aphids, AGAIN! I doctored them and can't eat fruit from them for 14 days. The heat is awful down here. Hot, Hot, Hot!

Good Deed

An elderly man called wanting a photo of a grave up Highway 7. He wanted to know how to get there and he was coming from OK to take the photo. Larry did a good deed and drove me up there and I took it for him. Synthia Sizemore Hensley lived from 1853 until 1932. She was born in KY and died here.

Road Work

An eighty year old man who Larry lets go through our pasture to fish paid to put 2 loads

of gravel and two culverts (we already had them) in the road the grand girls take to our house. We put 4 loads of gravel on the road coming up to our house. We live 600 feet off Bradley Cove Road and we own the drive so we have to keep it up. Nothing better than a good road. Sisters do you remember the clay road going out to Dan's and how messy it got in the winter and when it rained!

Ingrid can sing and she is learning to play the guitar.

Astrid's New Look

Astrid's room is upstairs. Half of the room is Mom's sewing area and half her room. She redid her room with new spread and curtains. She made a divider with the book selves Greg made for her horse collection. The bright colors really are uplifting.

Behind her book shelf there is a wall and she has a little reading nook or a place to hide and escape her sisters rowdiness.

Third Picking of Blue Lake

I picked the green beans for the third time. Each time there is more. I did the potatoes like Fleta said....I pulled two vines and dug under them. Also got more squash! Let little Red have the squash.

Moore Cemetery

Moore Cemetery is in Newton County, but see that little sign

that says, "Pope". The sign is in Pope County. We went here

yesterday. Larry's Mother is buried here plus many, many

grandparents on both sides of his family. You go to Ben Hur

and then continue down dirt roads that get narrower and

narrower...until finally you come to Moore, AR. At one time

there was a school, post office and stores here...now only bones.

Project No. ???

Old shed is almost history. We left enough to hang someone on if we need to! No one has come to mind so I guess we will tear this part down too.

Kiss The Snake

On field day ...Mr. H (my boss and my former student teacher) got the idea that we could give money to a charity by each teacher having a can with their photo on it in the library. Children would deposit money in the cans and the winner would get to kiss the snake. They put the cans in our mail boxes and told us to put them in the library on a shelf. Mine never made it down the hall to the book room. Mr. H. got to kiss the snake.
