January 31

Ada was up at first light reading her books from Boone County library! May she grow up to be a librarian!📚📖📚

Today is her library day. As she waited for Erin to go she rocked and continued reading.  Her library roll last week counted 49 books. She may not make perfect grades but I’m pretty sure she’ll be a proficient reader.

Logan E. Passed the praxis so he can look for a teaching position until he decides what his further education will be.

I chopped ice again yesterday. It’s really cold. I’ve not been to the grocery store in two weeks. Laura and Eric brought me a jug of milk. I’m existing. Last day of January…. Yay.

Another Blast

I shoveled snow all day yesterday. Well, really, I shoveled ice.  Laura tried it too, she hit herself in the head with the shovel. Thankful to R. D.  Walker  and C & D Drug for giving her a tetanus shot.

Sigrid is having pain in a wisdom tooth and her car is stranded in the snow in my yard. She’ll go to an oral surgeon next week.

Another blast of winter is on its way and most of this is still here. Another day is here to endure. I didn’t have to carry water to my chickens yesterday because the above freezing temps made some puddles of water.

After Larry passed a friend sent me this picture of us she had. A surprise new picture always makes me happy.

Staying Busy

I finished my last puzzle.
Laura walked yesterday and this is her road. Mine is about the same
Laura made Valentine pot holders.
Ada sent Fleta a birthday card. It was a little late. Her mother needed stamps. I love the 8 with the 7 added. Sister made it to work yesterday. They had graded the main road.
I’m trying to make this hat to honor the holocaust but I’m not getting it very well. I may give up. The ribbing is 90 rows of slip stitches. That’s tight and a lot.

Laura finished this and I think she called it punch art. I’m riding my bike to audio Bible. Maybe I can listen to the entire Bible in 2026. I picked reader Alexander Scourby. James Earl Jones in my favorite Bible reader, but I could not find the entire Bible with him. This is on YouTube.  I may transcribe the Southern Claim of Squire Blackie Blevins today as something different to do. After the Civil War if you had been robbed by the Confederates you could file a claim and the US Government would reimburse your loss. It’s like a pension file big and full of depositions.

January Coming to an End

An old comrade went home…Coach T…we called him. Worked with him 30 years. He was one of a kind. RIP
Pasture by my house. Nothing is melting. Sister Fleta said she was going to work today. My heart quivered. I asked her to text me if she made it. Thank you, Lord, she is at work today. Hope she gets home safely.
My drive way is still road untraveled.
Crow Mt road if I could get there. Laura took this yesterday. She donned her 50 pound backpack and walked 4.8 miles.
Galla Lake is partly frozen.
Pop’s Pond
So bored yesterday I tried to make biscuits. They were edible but not like Momma’s.
Laura tried to make Patsy’s picture clearer.
Logan and Sig walked to the Mall, 4 miles. She’s in class on zoom. Logan is a fine young man.
My son in law used this picture to describe himself.

Colder Last Night

I only have one more puzzle. I need warm weather before I go insane. I don’t watch tv in the daytime. I was raised by a man that believed it sapped productivity.  I try to eat healthy. I don’t want to eat all day.  The book I have to read is one Sister Fleta said was the favorite of her life~~Robertson Crusoe. I’m not thinking it’s going to be a lifetime fav for me. ðŸĪŠ I’ve got a crochet project to fill some time. I have an exercise bike I use daily. I’m lifting weights. I searched my genealogy site and found a picture of my sister Patsy I’d never seen.  It’s dim, foggy. I’m wishing it was clearer. I’ll be glad when I can think of Sister Helen like I do Patsy. I get a warm, good feeling when my Patsy comes to mind. I still want to scream when I remember Helen is gone.  I read that when someone dies it’s like glitter getting all over you. You can’t get it off. If you try to clean it away it sinks deeper and hurts more. Only time can bring that glitter alive so you can see and feel it once again as beautiful.

When I look outside this is one window view. Ice plants!
Laura has been making Valentine pot holders and this table runner for Astrid. It’s quilted. She has a 1000 piece puzzle to work. Still no school here. Nothing has melted. No school tomorrow either, but today it’s to get above freezing finally.

Cold and More Cold

Ada played in the snow. Erin set a timer. It was so cold when timer went off they had to come inside. Erin had hot chocolate ready.

I put another puzzle together. Only have two more.
Erin and Greta made snow ice cream.

Astrid, Siggie and the two Logans invented a new sport! Snow kayaking! Sigrid is pulling them. It was a scary sight.

Misery

Siggie and Logan E. made biscuits in Aunt Helen’s iron skillet, she inherited. They look good.
Astrid and Logan’s turkeys made a pretty picture.
I finished another library puzzle.
Friend on FB sent me this picture from 1968. It was my first year in college. We went to a picture booth at Branson, MO. I really can’t remember having it taken. I remember the girl on the left and I had matching t shirts. She was my roommate, Olivia Kennedy. The girl behind us is Sandy Russell. Long time ago.

Round One

Well, round one is past. Got water dripping from all my pipes. Electric still on. I have a heat pump so if electricity goes off I have no heat. No sheet of ice under this. We are to have 10 days of extreme cold and more snow or sleet until tomorrow.
Here is Officer Short with his dough cover. I knew him as a 6th grader. Looks different. He said that he has more feathers.
Lots of birds this morning. I filled all of the feeders yesterday. If a seed falls, there are birds on the ground getting the leavings.  Thinking of all the homeless today.

Storms Tonight

Yippity, skippity, my cousins Winn and Mike in Missouri sent me a Missouri Wild Flower book. It’s sorted by color. Arkansas and Missouri wildflowers are virtually the same

Made a dough cover for Laura’s school chum. The orange yellow is for Wilson Short. Yes, guys make bread too. He bakes sourdough.

Til the storm passes by, I will just exist. I don’t like snow and cold plus snow is even worse.  I changed the words to the Mosie Luster song.

I hung a quilt over my sliding door to conserve heat. I’m not fancy, just trying not to freeze.

'Til the storm passes over, 'til the snow falls no more

'Til the ice vanishes forever from the sky

Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand

Keep me safe 'til the storm passes by.

Mosie Lister, 1921 – 2015, was an American singer and Baptist minister. He was best known for writing the Gospel songs "Where No One Stands Alone", "Till the Storm Passes By", "Then I Met the Master" and "How Long Has It Been?" As a singer, he was an original member in The Statesmen Quartet! He was born in Georgia, served in the Navy during WWII. Many recorded his songs—George Beverly Shea, Porter Wagoner, Bill Gaither, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, and Elvis Presley. Elvis recorded three of Lister's songs in the 1960s: "Where No One Stands Alone" "He Knows Just What I Need" and "His Hand in Mine".

I donated puzzles to my library and found you can check out puzzles. I got two. Put one together yesterday and this morning. I may go back and get a couple more today. Til the storm passes by…..

Kenny to Doc

Little Kenny hasbeen constipated. Yesterday Logan and Astrid took him to Dr, Davis. He road in the backseat and Logan held him. They worried that June would be upset. I kept an eye on her and she seemed to be glad for a break from Kenny. Dr. Davis said his colon is small as he is. He prescribed mineral oil. He will just grow out of it he said. Astrid and Logan try to take care of their animals.

My perm is pretty curly, but at least not a flat cap on my head. It will relax. I have long longed for better hair. Jeri Kay said— at least not gray!

Storm and cold is coming. I’ll be glad when it passes by.

Storm Coming

Laura marched all the way up Nebo with her 15 pound weight pack. Maybe this will keep her bones strong in her old age.

Logan is the nicest young man.  Glad Astrid chose him.
Made a dough flour sack for a teacher at Laura’s school . The policeman there makes sourdough bread so I’m going to make him one.

I’m going to get a perm today. Work with trainer tomorrow!

For the Birds

It is really cold.  I remembered to feed the birds and they enjoyed the seeds.

Today I am going to yoga and then I am doing a weight lifting work out with Lisa. She is a personal trainer and has designed the workout for me. I will work with her for several times to learn what to do and how to do it.  She has a degree in kines. I am excited and hope it helps me retain strength in my legs and entire body.
