Harvest Moon

I’m easily entertained.  This morning I was up at 4 AM to walk with Lil Red and the moon was full and inspiring.  This year the September’s full moon is called the Harvest Moon because it falls nearest to the fall equinox.  The nickname dates back to the time before electricity when farmers harvested their annual crop and light from the moon helped them work well after sunset. The cooler conditions at night could also be a bit more comfortable than working in the heat of the day, especially during late-summer warm spells.   I surely enjoyed my walk in the Harvest Moon’s glow this morning.

Back on the Couch

Greg and Robert came and put Sister Helen’s big pieces of furniture in place.  She can sit on the couch and watch tv and can sleep in her bed and not on a mattress in the kitchen.  She said she could see some palm sized places she will need to revarnish.  The floor is not level and the applicator did not get some spots like she’d like.  Said she felt a little ill.  Probably from over doing it all those days.

Shower

I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain?

Aching Knees

Sister Helen finished the home place floor.   It is going to be so much better than nasty white carpet.  The first coat of varnish took a lot as the wood needed a drink after 75 years in the kiln.  But she said the second coat was not as absorbent.  I am anxious to see for myself.
My knees ached all two plus miles this morning.  A front is moving my knee joints said.  I saw all these colors of Morning Glories on my walk.

Laura took this yesterday.  I say it’s the Lord blessing Galla Meadow.  He loves how we are tending his land.

V Day

Helen put on first coat of varnish.  She’s hoping it will lighten as it dries.  It sucked up the varnish.  75 years of drying and wood heat in the house over 50 years really dried out the floor.  She’ll put a second coat tomorrow.

School Days

Sigrid is a junior.  This is her school photo.  Next year will be her last one.
I saw this dragonfly this afternoon while pending the back fence.  Pretty as a butterfly.
Helen is going to varnish tomorrow. She said she was going to use the steam mop on them tonight.  The varnish  has a little stain added to it.  It’s not a dark stain.    She’s worked really hard on the old wood floor, but it’ll be worth it to be rid of that nasty white carpet.

Egrets today

I did not take this picture but I think it’s beautiful.

I see egrets each time Phinnie and I walk to Galla Lake.  They are usually across the Lake from us but they always make me hesitate and watch their movements.  If I carried my camera around my neck, I could show you a picture like the one I found.  They swoop over the water, dive and snatch a fish.  Sometimes, you can see the catch flouncing on each side of their beak.  A good fisherman has patience.  I knew one that could sit for hours waiting for a bite.

Last Hurrah

Phinnie and I walked over across the Meadow last evening.  The sky was lit by the sun’s last hurrah before disappearing over the mountain.

Creating Gifts

Rhonda who cuts my hair is going to be a first time Grandmother.  I crocheted a blanket and cap for the baby boy.  The Other is a dough cover with an edging.  I’m tired of crocheting.  Maybe when it’s cold I’ll want to again.

Spiders

Spider Lilies are blooming even though we haven’t had a good rain in a month.  They are true pass-along plants, these hardy bulbs thrive in old gardens, yards, and cemeteries. Their show starts a few days after a good rain shower in midsummer through September. From bare ground, stalks burst through and unfurl their vibrant red show with curvy petals and stamens. As the flowers fade, narrow, green, straplike leaves with silver stripes emerge, persist all winter, and then disappear by spring. Long a mainstay in Southern gardens, red spider lilies go by several common names: "British soldiers," "Guernsey lilies," "surprise lilies," and also their botanical name, Lycoris radiata.

Floor Show

I want to show Helen’s progress on the wooden floor.  It will have several stained places but she’ll use two rugs or more.  There was a roof leak that lasted several years, wood coal burns, glue from several rugs.  It’ll be better than white nasty carpet for sure.  The varnish will make it look better.  When she applies it she has to stay off it 4 hours.  She wants to put two coats of varnish.

I know she is exhausted.
