White Dog vs White Chicken

Cora making sure no white chicken gets to her food bowl.
I have been letting the chickens out at least every other day.  They lay so much better and eat so much less "bought" food when they can range.  The white Sister chickens have become pets.  When I go outside they run to me like puppies.  Well, one discovered Cora's dog food bowl on the porch.  She spent yesterday trying to steal a nibble!
Cora lay near her bowl of food all afternoon.  Well, my smart dog had a plan today when I let the chickens out.  She just positioned her body on the step of the porch Mrs. White Chick could not come into her domain!
Sigrid has a job.  She is to water Neptune for the next 3 days.  Les waters her in one of those big animal water tanks.  He adds about 10 to 20 gallons a day to the container.  Once in a while, he dips several buckets out so it can stay pretty fresh.  Probably fresher than pond water.  I hope next year Larry will let him add the pond to his pasture, but Larry was concerned about all his Martins.  The Martins have left for the year.  Their houses really look lonesome.

Sigrid's Crocheted Pot Holder

After I succeeded in helping Astrid crochet the rag rug.  I told Laura I thought I could teach Sigrid to crochet.  When I saw how easy it was for Astrid, I realized that a beginner needs a big hook and also a string that does not seperate. Sigrid came over and sat with me 30 minutes or so working on the pot holder.  I had the white center and a little purple done.  She has completed all this and it may be big enough for a pot holder now.  Another thing is a beginner does not need to have to count stitches.  I think Sigrid has got this!  What do you think?

T-Shirt Rug

Astrid is making a t-shirt rug.  This is her first thing to crochet.  It would make a nice rug using old t-shirts as it would be very soft.  She bought these.  She cuts them in one continuous string.  It is going to look nice.

I started a pot holder for Sigrid and she is making it with a single crochet.  I told her we could rip the entire thing out when she was finished and she could redo it to practice.   When she got home she told her Momma there was no way she was ripping out the first thing she ever made!

I am still reading Grandpa's book.  I wonder if he did not get it right after his brother Worthy died.  It is three volumes in one book.  I finished volume one and now am on number 2.  Patsy had this book for a long time and gave it back to Mom and Mom gave it to me after Daddy died.  So I have had it about 25 years.  The part I am reading now is about flesh vs the spirit; heaven vs the world, and on and on.  I thought about sin and the I in the middle of the word.  Sin is thinking only about I.  What I need, want, enjoy, etc.  God and Lord have an O in the word for others.  This is not in the book just my thinking.  If we think of others rather than I or self , we would do more good.

Worthy Powell

I scanned in Worthy's obituary for my genealogy file.  I think I saw my Grandpa Powell's tear stains on it.  April 1927--long time ago--but still a sad read.

Trying To Stay Cool!

Clayton and Greta got a new dog.  She belonged to Erin's friend who had a Yorkie and this dog.  The Yorkie was mean to the Boxer mix.  Her name is Sophie and she is really nice and mannerly.  She is an inside and outside dog.  I bet she stays in if someone is home.
I took my stick the morning after the rain.  It helps me walk.  I met Mr. Copper in the road and put my stick on his head. Astrid and Laura were running.  If Astrid had stepped on him...he might have bitten her, but he was not able to.
Sigrid framed one of her swim team pictures.  I like the frame and the the picture.
Ingrid made the first cut for the 8th grade volleyball team here.  Volleyball is queen.  Every girl wants to play volleyball.  This sounds like they will cut again.  Astrid hated the skin tight shorts...but on Ingrid they are not skin tight.  She is a twig.
I took this of a red wing black bird this evening.  A way of cooling off.  I try to change the water in the bath each day, but it is green with algea.  I have to put a purex soak in to get it clean and it is too hot to mess with it.

Birds Of A Feather

The Blue Bird came this week and fluttered in the bird bath.  Siggie said the bath needed cleaning but I am a little lazy in this heat and I look at the dirty pond.  The birds drink there!
This goose was here several days but has moved to the neighbor's pond. It was all alone and Astrid said it probably got lost from his flock.  I did not mind it gliding on the pond.

Siggie is giving Netune an apple.  Neptune comes to the fence now when Siggie goes down.  She knows her friend.  Siggie is going to water her the 3 days Les is in FL and has her first job.  $20.00 for the three days.
Here was Jonelle's blue moon the 31st of July.  My camera is not a good one but I took a picture of the moon.

Acrossing Paths

When I went to walk this morning, the fella above was in my path.  I usually carry a walking stick because of my bad knees but I am getting stronger and today I left it in the truck.  I might have poked him with my stick if I had carried it, but today we just stepped around each other and went on our merry ways.

Below is where Patsy lived in 1965.  Nothing there today.
Fleta and George have been married a long time today if I remember correctly.

Pictures and 1965

Helen wanted me to post this.  It is where Beloved Sister lived in 1965 while in Sacramento, CA. I thought it was a phone book but probably just a directory of the city.
Ingrid and her friend on Mt. Nebo.  Here in the summer folks with money used to go to Mt. Nebo and stay.  Lots owned cabins there.  It is really a high altitude and so much cooler.  Ingrid spent a couple of day there with her friend, Claire.  Claire's Mom and Laura went to school together.

More picture of sweet Astrid at the gardens.

Rolling In The Deep

Don't have any pictures of Ingie and it makes me sad.
Clayton and Greta came to swim.  Larry and Greg went to the new Harbor Freight at Conway.  Erin said next week she will get going on her new job.  She said she will not wear scrubs to this job but professional dress.  Mostly, when she visits she asks the clients questions.  She will see the 100 I think she said every 6 weeks.
Clayton and Greta both enjoyed swimming today.

Laura will be mad for me posting this of her, but she is such a good hostess.  She is the hostess of the mostest.
Here are the underwater pictures that Siggie shared.  She took some of Clayton under the water too.  Her camera was a cheap one from Amazon, but it does just fine.
I love this one of nose bubbles...it was a selfie!
Astrid drew this for her room.  It is called the Hand of Hamsa.  The background alone took a lot of time and then the hand a masterful piece.  I thought it was an Africian piece and checked and found this-- is a palm-shaped amulet popular throughout the Middle East and North Africa, and commonly used in jewelery and wall hangings. Depicting the open right hand, an image recognized and used as a sign of protection in many societies throughout history, the hamsa is believed to provide defense against the evil eye.
Astrid and her Dad went to Nebraska for 3 days and 2 nights to visit his Grandmother Merle.  She is 90 or 91 and fading.  Eric wanted to see her before he had to go back to school.  His Uncle invited them to stay with him so just the two of them went...not to overcrowd their welcome.  I don't know about this time...but last time Merle begged to come to AR with them.  Below the picture is of the Sunken Gardens Eric and Astrid visited today.

Larry knows a man that works construction.  He was redoing a house and they wanted these two big ferns gone.  Larry brought them to me, but I have 2 nice ones and told him his red head would love them.  He took them and left them on her porch as she was not home.  You would have thought her Daddy bought her a diamond.  Don't you love her Caladiums in the tub@

Mom And Dad

I took these pictures out of the frame to take a picture for my genealogy file.  Helen made the copy of Dad and Mom for me in 1989.  On the back of Mom's, Momma wrote her picture was taken Christmas 1936.  She was 15.  Dad's was taken in 1944 and he was 29.  I wish Fleta would make a scan of Dad's as in the remake you can not see the Navy cap.  There needs to be more contrast between the white and background but in my copy you can't see much.

Happy Birthday, Jonell

This was taken our senior year in High School.  I recall the hair cut I have.  I got it for my senior picture so I think it was winter 1967.  Fleta and Jonell have on long sleeves.  We wnet to Silver Dollar City.  Jonell turns 65 July 31.  She got Medicare at the first of July.  Erin told me today that Medicare was 50 years old.  Bess and Harry Truman got the first two card numbers!  Hope Jonell has a great birthday.  Her sisters were taking her to lunch at Alpena.  The cafe is run by Fleta and Helen's Pastor's daughter.  I wonder if all the sisters were together or just part.  If all my sisters get together, it is only three now.

Crossing the Red Sea to Check on Neighbors

I went out today to check on my neighbors.  There are still several here, but they tweeted to me that they were not hanging here much longer.  For one thing their water has turned to blood and they are going to fly over this red sea and head south to Brazil!

Poor Spud, Cora and Opal were totally aggravated by this possum all morning.
The Surprise Lilies are popping up everywhere.
