If you have heard the story please forgive the repeat. My grandmother told the story of her uncle winning a horse in a poker game. The young man he won the horse from could not go back and tell his father he lost the horse so he told his father it was stolen. The father and some other men rode out and found John and his partner sleeping under a tree. Both were shot where they slept, killing John and wounding his partner. His partner buried him there.
