Another Puzzle Completed!

Pop and Astrid finished another puzzle. I like to glue them and use them
on tables like a scarf. But Astrid wants them put back in the boxes so they
can put them together again.

Patsy

Went to Rogers, AR yesterday and am so glad I did.
Patsy is sick with an infection in the incision from her
hernia repair and she may have a little infection in her
bowel, but she is feeling fine. She is in no pain at all. She
said she may have to stay several days, but this time she
is going to treat this as a little vacation. With all the
Sister sickness, one could be depressed, but Patsy lifted
me high yesterday. She is ok and is going to whip this
and be back on chicken ridge in less than a week. Since
she has probably had this infection since her surgery,
there is no telling how wonderful she will feel once it is gone.
I am dreaming about next summer and those little Rhode
Island Red hens she is going to hatch out for me.

Billy See's Bride!

Billy See took a bride--
The family all said joy!

My Flock!

Here are some of my chickens that Patsy gave me. I still
have about 10 of my old banties, but all the rest are young
and fancy! My old chickens' feet are not good, but they are
probably between 4 and 6 years old and that is old for a chicken.

Glad Helen is home! Hope things are brighter tomorrow for
her. Glad her friend, Rhea, came out to be with her a few days.

Worn Out!

Life's fabric has worn thin;
'tis darned and patched and tied.
It has been turned so many times
to show the brighter side.
Mary Elizabeth Mahnkey (ca 1930)
Fleta's favorite poem by her!

Happy Birthday!

I hope you have a good day today, Helen, on
your birthday and many more wonderful
days.

Marigold Gold!

HOLLYHOCK TEA
When I grow old, I’ll raise turnips
And try to like turnip stew,
But now that I’m young, I raise hollyhocks
And asters, and marigolds too.
Raising turnips is sadness
That is why I dread growing old,
Do you think I could live on hollyhock tea
Or shop with the marigold gold?
Perhaps my flowers will remember
And make intercession for me,
And old age will come along gayly
And help me make hollyhock tea.
I am going to work today...a week under my belt.
Annie in Little Rock and Patsy on Chicken Ridge are
raising Hollyhocks to make a sweet glass of tea and
shopping on Marigold Gold!
Poem is by Mary Elizabeth Mahnkey from the book,
"A Candle Within her Soul". The book is edited by Ellen
Gray Massey and is a favorite book of mine...Patsy
recommended it.

Old Sister

Patsy and her 'Tick' weed?
Found this poem that fit my oldest Sister. It is
by Mary Elizabeth Mahnkey..

TO A MELANCHOLY LADY
Raise some guineas
Raise some gourds.
Make a little gesture towards
A richer life in service passed
To leave some imprint that may last.
If not great deeds
Or golden words,
Then raise some guineas
Raise some gourds.

Happy Anniversery!

Look who has been married 2 years...they
are not newly weds anymore! Old married
couple!

Green Forest Water Tower

This is Green Forest where the Sisters grew up,
but there was not a stop light in those days. In the
distance you can see a water tower....now you will
have to give a close look. Well, I read in the Gazette
Sunday that the Green Forest Water Tower is an
historic site now! It is on the list to be preserved.
The tower was built during the Roosevelt years as
one of over 200 public works in Arkansas that gave
jobs to citizens! Some towns have an old building on
the list, Green Forest has a water tower.

My internet has been down for over a day...sorry I
missed you all stopping by.

Buffalo River

Some idling going on here. I will not be
idling today! Back to the grind.

Crossing over New Bridge

I did not take a photo of the new bridge....but
here we are crossing over it. I don't know if
you can still go over the old White River Bridge
or if it is closed to traffic. They are at different
locations, but not far apart. The White River is
a beautiful River.

Old Bridge over White River!

Wonder if this bridge is still strong. There is a new
bridge over the White River at Cotter, AR, but it
is not nearly this pretty!

Book shelf!

Here is a book shelf by my TV. The M. Henry study guide
was Larry's moms. I really like it and it is a good commentary.
The next two books were Grandpa Powell's; Patsy gave them
to me I think. Next book is Larrys. Iwo Jima...Erin bought me
at a used book place. Then a cook book I like. Then Philo and
Josephus. And lastly, how to say it. It helps write a letter that
sounds right.

These are all books that I want to keep. Except Larry's that got
put on the shelf by mistake!

Dardanelle Lock and Dam

Pop took his 3 little friends to the State Park
at the lock and Dam to play and took this photo.
It shows how the vessels go through the Dam.
He took lots of pictures of the girls too! Will
show you one tomorrow! I am getting a perm
today. Tomorrow we are taking a little trip
to northern Mo. Summer is vertially over.
Thinking of Sister Helen today as she goes to
a specialist!

Don't forget!

All the water hose you buy today are sorry. Forgot to
turn the water off and went out 2 hours later and this
was what had happened. No telling what the water bill
will be.

We went clothes shopping at Target yesterday.
The girls had fun picking out 3 outfits each.
Siggy stayed with her Dad, but we brought her
some new Dora clogs and she liked them.

Being Prepared!

Richard (you can see him in his overalls, a few
posts down) has always been a good provider for his
family and his wife Barbara has dedicated her
life to making a good home for them. They are
older now and I know Richard drives Barb crazy,
but I am glad they have each other.

Richard and Barbara Powell will have their 50th
wedding anniversery, Dec. 25, 2009. He already
has had this quilt made to honor the occasion.
When he showed it to me Barb had to tell him where
she put it. They are a team. Richard may have been
the Captain at one time, but now he is just first mate.
Barb, I sailing their ship. The steerage is tiresome I
know. She is a great sister-in-law.

I am Blessed!

I am blessed. I have two wonderful girls and the
blessing is both their husbands love and cherish
my girls.

Coon Hunter!

Erin snapped this picture of brother, Richard, as
we stopped on the way back from Chicken Ridge.
He said he could give me a truck load of Tyson
chicks, but I declined. I like Pat's little Banties
much better.

Eureka Brick

We went to Clarksville, AR this week to the Farm
Store. I have always wanted to take a picture of
this brick factory. It is on two sides of the hiway
so they have this conveyer built to carry the
brick across the road. Acme Brick bought Eureka
out some years ago....but it is still Eureka to me.

Emperor's New Clothes~Sister's Old Ones!

Some folks love new clothes and I love old ones. I
am not going to wash these jean shorts again. They
are going in the trash. I have worn them out. I wear
out all clothes that don't get to tight. Can't stand
tight clothes. I like to wear the same thing with
the same thing. Like this shirt Laura or Erin gave
me with these shorts. I wore them together. Now
the shorts are worn out and I am sad. The shirt
is frayed around the neck, but I think I can wear it
2 or 3 more years.

I am not getting new school clothes. I will wear the
same things I wore last year. I can't wear the things
I wore 5 years ago now because I am too fat, but if
I were not I would still be wearing them.

I have a white pair of pants that I wear to church
that I bought Erin so she could be a helper at the
Hospital here when she was in the 9th grade (1994).
I cut a foot off the bottom because she is 6' tall and
I used to be 5'5".

I want to get Astrid and Ingrid some new school
clothes, but I like the feel of my old stuff. I love
shopping at the goodwill store, too. Those clothes
already have a good feel!
