Fav

Last week I went to the Dr.  Well. I saw the Nurse Practitioner.  I wanted a tetanus shot.  I’d jabbed myself with rusty wire working on the fence again.  They measured me.  I’m only 5’ 3”.  I’ve shrunk—2 inches.    My little 6th grade Greta is taller than me.  She’s playing soccer now.  If you ask her what sport is her fav, she says the one in season.

Ada has made friends with Emery whose grandmother lives across the street from her.  She loves when Emery comes to her side of the street.

Prefect Morn

Goldenrod
Bluemist
Boneset
My morning stroll was so wonderful.  The air was perfectly crisp.  Galla Lake is really low.  When the waters move inward, it remains reminds me of fingers.  My Maple is a darker red.  Wild Goldenrod borders all my trails and Bluemist blooms under their foliage.  Boneset flowers are tall near all the culverts.  Boneset gets its name from the long, lance-shaped leaves that are paired and fused on the stem.  Because the stem appears to be growing through the leaf, early herb doctors wrapped its leaves with bandages around splints, thinking the plant would be useful in setting bones. The plant was also used in treating break-bone fever (dengue fever), another explanation for the common name.  Dengue fever is spread by a mosquito and the name gives a hint of the severe bone and muscle pain it causes. The fever isn't actually breaking any bones, but it feels like it is.

Cool Mornings

Comanche

Everyone around here is lovin’ the cool mornings.

Daughters’ Day

Happy Daughter’s Day

You know, I dont know if it really is daughter’s day.  But I saw someone said so and I went looking on my blog for a picture of these two together.  Lots of pictures of each but not together. I made both their hats and they took me to check on Sister Patsy at Rogers this day.  She was in the hospital so sick I thought she might die.  I wanted to see her once more.   They were there for me.  When their Dad came home for his last days on earth, they did not disappoint him or me.  Both were here for us.  I hope I have never disappointed them as I am so proud of both.  They are pretty much opposites.  One is a sunny day and the other an anchor for my soul.  Both are jewels—my undeserved blessing.

Blue Birds Aplenty

Yesterday, the temperature rose to the 90’s in the afternoon and birds flocked to the little swimming pool.  I can do so little good in this world I find much satisfaction helping the birds.

Ingie took this of the Meadow at sunset.  She and Astrid value the land and it makes my heart swell.

The Razorbacks lost yesterday and there is much weeping in hog land.  Laura fixed an array os snacks to eat and watch the game.  I went over and enjoyed guacamole and spinach dip but came back home and read my book.   SisterFleta won’t want to read it.  Sorta sad.  I’ll share it another day. .

No Bull

Laura has a large window where she used to have a double door.  She ordered sheers to knock down the afternoon sun.  She added a door in the dining room to go out on the deck.  The new arrangement gives more room in the living room.  She’s lived here over 20 years!  Seems impossible.

Ingrid is making an A in her hard Biology Class.  She has one more year after this.
Ada’s class got to meet a big Long Horn.

Wandering Jew

My wandering Jew has some pink blooms.  I did not know it bloomed.

This morning when I walked I thought about the news being so depressing.  Watching the news brings despair but reading His Word gives me hope!  Even looking up at the sky, gives me a feeling of hopefulness.

Hope you are having a great day.  We only have hope because of Jesus.

Rodeo Days

Rodeo Days at Pre K
I was born in Harrison, AR in the Ozark hills
And I rode my pinto pony at full gallop just for thrills
And a song of joy and gladness bubbled upwards from my heart
And burst forthin' merry music, that's how yodeling got its start
They call her Ada Mae, the Yodelin' Cowgirl
As dainty as a fairy, princess of the prairie
Yes she's Ada Mae, the Yodelin' Cowgirl

Cash and King

Here’s Johnny and the King.  The King wasn’t a king, but Johnny was always Johnny.

Pearl Jam

Ingie Bean and her Dad are in Ok City tonight enjoying a big name band, Pearl Jam!  Just Breathe……

I wonder everyday

As I look upon your face

Everything you gave

And nothing you would take

Nothing you would take

Everything you gave

Ada Learning

Ada goes to pre-k and loves it.  She calls it my school.  I recall leaving Laura with Helen Potts at Pottsville at 6 weeks (1974) and going back to work.  My stomach hurt all day.  Helen kept only Laura and was a special person.  Still, I fretted.  I am glad Ada has a good place to spend her day.  She is learning new things and is excited to go each morning.  She’s wearing a pair of her Keen’s I nabbed at Feltner’s half of half.  I loved her staying the two nights with me.  I’m not use to the constant vigilance.  If she was quiet she was “into something”. She may grow up to be a truck driver as she loves riding around.  She’s an unexpected blessing.

Red Hat Girl

Sigrid is enjoying being a senior. In a blink of an eye, she’ll be a High School grad.  Where did the time go?  Will she wear a red hat when she is an old woman?

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple,

With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.

And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves,

And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.

Gone Fishing

Clayton wanted to try fishing in Pop’s pond.  He caught some small bream.    Larry stocked it with bream, but there’s quite a lot of turtles in the pond now.  Ada’s showing off her little catch.

Good Company

I have good company for two nights.  We’re getting alone great!  Astrid let her swim this evening.  Not many toys here so she pretends she’s driving.  Greta had a soccer tournament at Jonesboro.  Glad Ada came to stay with me.

Astrid’s friend brought her nephew Mateo and both enjoyed the cool water.

Palking

Have you ever heard of plogging?  Plogging is a combination of jogging with picking up litter (merging the Swedish verbs plocka upp (pick up) and jogga (jog) gives the new Swedish verb plogga, from which the word plogging derives).  Well, my Sister Fleta is past her jogging age, but I guess what she does could be called palking.  She walks along her rural road daily and picks up litter by the road.  She hangs the trash, beer cans, and bottles on twigs and after a few days she totes a sack and picks it all up.  She hopes those tossing the litter will see their handiwork on the stems of bushes and be deterred.  That may not be working as the trash is non-ending.  So, I have made up a new word picking up and walking.  Sister goes palking everyday.

Maypop

I spied a pretty Maypop (Passion flower) when Phinnie and I walked!  It is a rare, native vine blooming from late summer to early fall.

Olive Egg?

I got an egg today that’s green but not really olive green.  My olive eggers are due to lay any day!  I’m wondering if it’s an olive Egger egg?

Siggie, Sumac and A Sprig

Siggie is trying teaching.  Today is her first day.  She’s assigned to Mrs Babb, a science teacher.  She will be in her room as an assistant and observer letting her experience what teaching is like.  She considering teaching as a career.  This will help in her decisions about her future.  Math and science are Sig’s strongest subjects.  I hope her day is educational and helpful to Mrs. Babb.
Cow Parsley and Sumac caught my eye this morning.  The delicate white flowers of cow parsley (wild carrot) resemble lace, and is called Queen Anne’s lace.  The Anne may referred to Queen Anne (1665-1714; reigned 1702-14). Although she had many pregnancies, Anne left no surviving children.  Queen Anne’s lace is generally understood to refer to its lace-like appearance, but also her tragic child losses.  Sumac’s leaves turn red early. Sumac is used as a spice, as a dye, and in medicine.  My Dad was allergic to Sumac and would break out like others do around poison ivy.
