A new “baby boom” of sorts has begun at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center’s new patient tower.
Just a few hours after relocating the obstetrical unit to the tower, Greg and Erin Jones welcomed the arrival of their son, Clayton Gene Jones, as the first baby born in the tower.
The seven pound, one ounce boy was the first baby born in the all-new birthing suite in Harrison and because of a generous gift from North Arkansas College his parents won't have to worry about putting him through college.
Northark donated two years of college tuition currently valued at $3,600 (in-county residents) to the obviously happy parents, which could be worth much more by the time he goes to college.
“We are very proud to support the new patient tower and the economic future of Harrison by providing this opportunity to the child. It will be a relief to the parents and to the child that two years worth of college is already paid for and we are so happy to do it,” Northark President Dr. Jeff Olson said.
The baby arrived at 4:46 p.m. Saturday, June 28. Erin labored, delivered and recovered all in the same patient room. The new rooms are spacious enough to accommodate the entire family.
Delivering physician was Dawn Phelps, M. D. Proud grandparents include Betty and Larry Renfroe of Pottsville; Rick and Gelica Griffin of Harrison; and Steve and Pat Jones of Joplin, Mo.
Greg and Erin were exited that Clayton was the first to be born in the new facility, saying his newsworthy arrival made it all the more special.
When asked if there would be brothers or sisters in Clayton’s future, Erin replied, “With the epidural, maybe.”
