Home Grown

Talya Boerner is an Arkansas author. She has a new book I’m wanting to read. She grew up in the northeast corner of Arkansas. Her father had a large row crop farm. He grew cotton as did his ancestors but switched to soy beans later. She’s written 4 books. I loved The Accidental Salvation of Gracie Lee. Gene Everywhere is about a father in law who has dementia. Bernice Runs Away is a story of second chances. The Third Act is her new book and it’s out. I hope my library will get it.

I can read digital books but prefer a real copy. The books I read online have to be free ones. I own some books but don’t like buying fiction books. I can read them in an afternoon and then they are clutter. Plus, it seems a waste of money. It took me a long time to buy water in a bottle. I pay a water bill. Why pay for water in a bottle. It still seems silly and wasteful but I buy water in a bottle now.  Since I’m 3/4s a 100, I doubt I live long enough to condition myself into buying books and reading them in a day. I can’t buy movies on line either. I have Netflix and Amazon Prime. Amazon tries to get me to buy movies. They let one watch a few in a series but to see the rest you have to pay. I look at it like a ploy and just can’t. I like British tv and movies. I may buy Brit Box for a year and try it.

I know old people develop weird ideas and are stubborn. I am in that group.

I like real books, I do have many books on my Kindle. I order books from Thrift books and then pass them on to neighbors or relatives or take them to the New little library...I have a bunch on my desk headed to the little library now:)

Amazon Prime has gotten a bit shady; they advertise movies like they are on Prime but they aren't or we have to pay for them. Grrrr. I would love to have BritBox and Acorn but make do with PBS Passport. (I donate so I get the shows and help out PBS at the same time) I get books from the library or on my Kindle app. I don't want any more physical books cluttering up the house.

Sister Helen logged on to the big Phoenix Library and I can download through them. It’s a big library. I want to read the correspondence. Only 79 in front of me. Grrrr. I have an App for AR libraries but the books aren’t timely. I bought books from Thriftbooks before. I just hate to buy one I can read in a day. Life is hard but I’m still living. I’ve thought about doing Passport, but I’ve already seen lots of their stuff.
