My yard is still mainly weeds but some are very pretty weeds. The little blue blooms on this low profile plant is Madder. It covers a lot of my yard and belongs to the coffee family (Rubiaceae). Madder is native to Eurasia. The roots have been used since ancient times as a red dye. If you pull a little clump you’ll see the bright red roots.
I noticed last week an acre was fenced off on a neighbor’s pasture. It’s next to an addition where nice homes are enjoyed. Next a privacy fence went up between the acre and the first house. Days later heavy equipment showed up. The culverts were big concrete ones…several. This surely wasn’t going to be a new house. Logan R. Always finds out first. We know the owner of the farmland. My new neighbor is the Dollar General. I have mixed emotions, but mostly sad feelings. I guess if my knee wasn’t in bad shape, I could walk to shop. It’s about a 1/4 of a mile from me!I sorted out all my small yarn leftovers. I’m making a many color afghan from them. I’m choosing dark to light as mother did when making a patched quilt!

You can jump on your side by side and go shopping! Pretty weeds!
Some weeds are very pretty but unfortunately, they tend to be invasive. Dollar Generals are everywhere in certain areas of the country. Not here though.
Dollar stores can be pretty handy, or help with the food budget. I noticed items from one of my nearby stores have sooner expire dates than items from WalMart or the usual grocery stores, even the boxed pasta or canned items. Watch for that. Linda in Kansas
