Dot, got me to thinking...these trees in the meadow maybe Black Gun trees as I don't think they have those little balls drop to the ground like Sweet Gum do. Is the a tree called Black Gum?

Maybe it is a dumgum tree.
According to googlenet, the leaves on the blackgum and the sweet gum do not look much alike. So, go get a leaf from the tree and post it on your blog and Sweetness can tell you if it is sweet, black or dumb.
I will do it on my walk this evening and we can decide what kind of tree is in the meadow. If I find those nasty little balls under the tree...no need to take a picture...I will know it is a Sweet Gum.
