My Valentine

Safely Here

Sister made it here yesterday at 5 A.M.  Drove straight through!  She drove 18 hours.  It was a straight shot down I 40.  She’d only ate salt-teen crackers. Fixed her a couple of eggs.  She was too exhausted to sleep.

She gets cigar boxes out there.  This one says Fat Bottom Betty!  Perfect for me.

Helen’s daughter in law Kimmie sent me these felt hangers. Shirts don’t slide off.

Hopeful

Romans 12:12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer.

Yesterday it was chilly and drizzling on me when I walked, but I spied this little bloom signaling things to come.

First Dance

Greta went to her first dance.  Just one a year so it’s done til next year.  Ada got all dressed up too.

My Ladies

This lacy hen is Astrid’s.  I think a Wyandotte.
This hen is a cross of a leghorn and Rhode Island Red.  She lays a dark brown egg.
This is an Olive egger. She lays green speckled eggs.

This is also a leghorn and Red Cross but it’s the opposite of the one with white.  One uses a white rooster and the other a white hen.  I don’t know which is which.

My rooster is an Easter egger and Olive egger cross.  The black hen is a Maran.  She lays a dark brown egg. I only have 10 chickens now.  A coyote got my Easter egger hen in broad daylight.

Let’s Dance

Greta went to her first dance tonight.  She’s in 7th grade and 13.  I hope she has a great time.  Ada dressed up too.

Reading Still

I’m still reading.  These are my three latest books.  I learned a lot about beekeeping and loss in the Honey Bus.  Lori Gottlieb is a therapist.  If you can listen and nod your head, you might be a therapist.  We have two ears and one mouth for a reason.  Demon Copperhead is fiction.  It’s a modern day David Copperfield and winner of the Pulitzer Price.  It explores poverty, foster care, survival in the Appalachia.  I wish I could say the kid’s life surprised me but I spent 40 years in public school.  I’ve seen it all.

Women and Girls Sports Day

πŸ’šHappy National Girls and Women Sports DayπŸ’š Honoring my Astrid Roberts on this day.  She has loved every sport she has tried.  She still runs, works out, plays organized soccer, competes in races.

The National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) is an annual day of observance held during the first week of February to acknowledge the accomplishments of female athletes, recognize the influence of sports participation for women and girls, and honor the progress and advocation for equality for women in sport.

Girls and women who play sports have higher levels of confidence and self-esteem and lower levels of depression. Girls and women who play sports have a more positive body image and experience higher states of psychological well-being than girls and women who do not play sports.

Scholastic Scholar

Greta has determination. Greta’s Gobs beat Siloam Springs last night. She scored 16 points and played a great game.   Thanks to Harrison Athletics, I watched on YouTube.  Senior girls play tonight.  She pulled this National Honor Society invite out of her backpack and told Erin to write a note saying she couldn’t attend so she could watch basketball.  Erin said “no” and Greta will go tonight.  Then she read what was appropriate to wear— boys can wear jeans but girl’s list was fancier.  “Not fair”, said Greta!

Congrats to Greta for being a National Honor Society Scholar.  She wanted to wear white converse tennis shoes.  Erin said they can go to the basketball game afterward.

Sun Restoring Me

I wanted to burn all those sticks that had fell from my trees during the ice, rain and snow, but the oak leaves were deep there.  I knew they’d catch fire and make a mess.  The fire wouldn’t have gotten away from me but Phinnie would been getting black feet and my house is dirty enough.  First, I got my Kubota lawn mower out and mowed all the leaves.  My mower started right up.  By late after noon I did not even need a jacket outside.  Phinnie was so happy to be outside.

Sister Helen will be coming home in about a week.  She’s had problems with her car stalling.  Her Kimberley made her a warning sign for her little car.  I think son Bill has all the things on her car fixed but a warning sign doesn’t hurt!  Bill bought an older camper and is upgrading it.  Helen is making new covers for all the cushions.
Laura told me about signing up to usps so I can see my mail each day.  Well, they sent a notification that I have a pkg coming from Berryville.  Anticipation! What is it?  Who’s sending me something?  Thursday, I will know!

This video is for my friend Donna Wood.  I think, after viewing it, Donna will appreciate her God given singing ability more.  Sister Fleta and I are singing happy day to her 49 year old baby son.  He told us it’s a good thing we’re already saved as this would boot us from the heavenly chorus for sure.  And Sister did not know how to end a video so we just go on and on and on…..
