Basketball

Fleta and I both watched basketball last evening.  Both our teams won.  Hannah is on the Green Forest Junior High team.  They beat Elkins in the District Tourney.  They plan in the finals Saturday.

Tech pulled out a close one with Oklahoma Baptist.  I enjoy basketball.  Sunday, Eric is cooking steaks for the Super Bowl game.  I was for the Chiefs so I don’t have a team in the fight but steak is my favorite meal.  We’re having baked potatoes and salad too.  Lemon cheesecake for dessert.  That will be the big winner.

Today In My Chair

As I sit and do nothing again today, the word puzzle is completed.  Why doesn’t it make me feel I have accomplished something.  I’m feeling pretty useless.

Well, fiddle, it took me longer to solve the word today.  Guess I should just pause and be thankful that I finally figured it out.  At least I’m staving off forgetfulness.  But what I’d like to forget comes to mind and a name I am trying to remember escapes me.

Basketball

The Arkansas Razorbacks beat number one Georgia last night in over time.  Everyone wore white.  Maybe Auburn was blinded by our light.  The fans rushed the court after the game.  Musselman calls the fans his 6th man.  Last night they were in the starting lineup.

I have been playing this word game.  Today’s word was humor.  I am not the brightest star so it took me awhile to figure out what the game was about, but I did and I’m playing it daily.  There is only one game each day.  I work on it with my morning coffee.  So far I’ve gotten each word.

It took me a while to even locate the game.  At the App Store there are copies that aren’t nearly as great as the simple one.  The creator sold the game to the New York Times so I guess it will not always be free.  I’ll just enjoy it now.

Make Over

Pop had a dog kennel.  He kept it full of Feist dogs.  Astrid and Logan are turning the kennel into a chicken house and storage for feed and supplies.  It would be fine with Pop.  He’d want life in his kennel.  When Pop had puppies the girl’s came up and held them.  He say my pups need socializing and ask them to come to play with the puppies.  I think Pop needed the social activity.  Larry was a great grandfather.  He took the girls hunting, fishing, taught them to drive.  They built things in his wood working shop.  He’d take them to playgrounds and watch them play.  He’d make a big deal out of it.  He’d drive to Morrilton or Dover to their playgrounds.  He took them to Waffle House for breakfast. He took them to church.  Larry loved being a grandfather.  I think that was his purpose.  His grandparents loved him.  He’d learned from Ada and Finis about what his role was—to love.

Helen’s Remodel

Helen’s putting in flooring and painting the back bedroom in the old house.  Our old home had a smoke house on the back porch.  When Daddy got old he made it into a bedroom and he slept out there.  It was old and only had room for his bed and a foot or so on each side.
Brother Clayton knocked out a wall and made this smokehouse room part of the back bedroom.
Clayton did not think his remodeling through before knocking out walls.  He put white carpet in this room.  Carpet covers lots of mistakes.  The smoke house room is on cement and the back bedroom has a wooden floor.
Helen has to make the transition between the rooms merge.  Quite a big job.  Brother did not ever sparkle all the joints and nailings.  Another big chore.  Helen enjoys a challenge.  She has half the floor down.  She moved the stuff in the room to one side and now she’ll move that to the finished side and floor the rest.

Another big deal is the smokehouse part has a sloping ceiling and the bedroom has a normal 8 foot ceiling.   So Helen has lots of trouble to conquer, but she’s getting it all done.  The room had two ceiling lights. She’s removing one.  As she works, she dreams of someone in the future enjoying this home where one can live without paying rent.  It’s a pay it forward home.

Reward

Ada got two stickers this morning.  She used her potty.  Erin has tried to reward her when she uses the bathroom like a big girl, but it doesn’t always work.  She has a big sister who gives in if she cries and gives her a sticker anyway.  Does this hurt Ada?  I doubt it does.  Being loved is a good thing.

Ada got new shoes.  I like them.  They remind me of Sister Helen’s jelly shoes.

Royalty

I had good company yesterday.  Princess Ada stayed overnight Friday.  Saturday, Greta Ann had basketball at Greenbrier.  Laura drove Ada and I down to watch her 10:00 o’clock game.  The rest of the day Ada entertained me with her antics.  I was at her beckon call.  We watched a little Daniel Tiger.  When they headed up hiway 7, she rested all the way home.

We Got Some of Each

Well, it rained ice, then sleet, now it’s snowing.  It’s 26 now and tonight will be in the teens.  Come on spring.

Phinnie and I went out at 10:30 and watered the chickens and birds.  Threw corn on the floor of the hen house and black sunflower atop the snow, sleet and ice for the birds.  Something was falling.  I guess it was sleet.  Gathered three eggs.  Poor little critters.  Be glad to see the sun again.  Logan and Astrid brought me a little pan of cinnamon rolls from lil Red.  So I’m enjoying one with a cup of coffee.

All things bright and beautiful,

All creatures great and small,

All things wise and wonderful,

The Lord God made them all!

Wisdom Today

That ground hog doesn’t know much about weather.  He’s been married several times and his ex-wife says he’s a compulsive liar.
Girl Scout cookies are coming soon.  I’m ordering thin mints.  No way they could be fattening.🤣🤣

To Feel Good

Sister bought this massage chair.  She uses it almost daily.  I hope I do as well with my bike.  I rode during Jeopardy yesterday and this afternoon.  I hope I can make the bike a habit.  I still walk some outside each day if the weather allows.  I’m lifting my weights I ordered too.  That’s helped me get out of the bath tub much easier.

Getting old is really an up hill climb to stay healthy.
