Rootsweb Axed

Looks like Ancestry had killed Rootsweb.  What a Christmas gift!  Just about like a death in the family.   I mourn!

TBH

TBH--to be honest--I love Christmas trees and decorations.  All the post about too much was just a cover for I am too lazy to decorate.  I bet Hannah decorated Fleta's tree.   Once I recall sitting the tree on the dining table.  We ate from the bar.  I loved the things the children made for the tree and the trimmings the kids at school gave me.  I am just lazy--now, you know.  If someone would decorate, I would love seeing the pretty things and sparkling lights.  I love seeing Sig's tree in her window and the yards lit up.  I really sit around and read a lot.  I crochet.   I am not a big worker, I am a good sitter.  I never had a big fancy tree.  Some years we cut a real one, but sort of like Hazel, I did not like all that mess.  It was also sort of dangerous.  I will tell you this, I never had a tree taller than me. teehee

Warm Christmas

Bahumbug!

I don't have a tree.  I don't have decorations.  I usually get out a ceramic tree but this year have not.  I recall us decorating the tree in that house Helen's lives in.  We put icicles all over it and made the decorations.  Momma did not keep anything from year to year.  All decorations went out with the tree.  Usually it was a big, big cedar as Daddy picked it...not Mom.  The needles drove her crazy until Christmas came and it could be pulled outside.  She liked the artificial trees much better.  Granny Gaddy had a silver one.  Mom would have really liked it as she would have thought no need for decorations.  The picture is from Larry's Great Grandmother's cabin 1947.  Sock hangs from the mantle and presents are wrapped just in tissue.  The main gift was a big meal with family!  We have gone gaudy in trying to be glorious.

Caroline

 These are from Find A Grave--which ancestry now owns--so it is not as good as it used to be.  Above is Caroline Quiner and below Charles Ingalls. 

 I just finished reading a fiction book about Caroline Quiner.  The book is about the families' short time in Montgomery County, Kansas.  They are on the 1870 census for that county.  Recorded in the Ingalls' Bible is baby Carrie's birth in Montgomery County, Kansas.  Laura Wilder went to the area looking for the place she had lived.  Childhood memories fade.   She thought they lived 40 miles south of Independence which would have put them in Oklahoma, but it was only 14 miles south.  The little homestead was in Kansas.  Laura told they had to leave because the U S government said not whites could settle there, but in reality where they lived was not affected.  They left because the guy who bought their place in Wisconsin defaulted and they had no money to purchase the land. 

I tried to figure out who Mr. Edwards was from the census and Mrs. Scott, but the names are changed so I could not solve that mystery.  Someone else probably already has.

 The book was okay.  It really just retold the stories that Wilder wrote of from a mother's view.  I enjoyed the history part of the book.

Laura has to work today.  Even Erin is off.  Hope Laura has a good day and it is not too taxing.

Maddening Modem Day

First thing today, I went to the chicken pen and one of my banties was dead.  The pretty yellow one Larry bought me.  Nothing killed it, just died.  I mourn!

 Clayton and Greta's last day of school was yesterday.   They were allowed to wear their pj's.  Erin worked today but is off tomorrow.  Kids were with Dad today.  Erin said when she left for the office, he was asleep and they were watching cartoon.

I am put out with Clayton's teacher.  She has a FB page.  She posts the same kids over and over.  I wanted to make a comment like, "I thought my Gson was in your class, but guess not as you NEVER post a picture of him."  Erin axed it.  No, No, Gigi can not say that.  If I were the teacher, I would make a chart and check off who got the pictures up so every child would be seen.  I may send a letter through snail mail.  Erin will not see that.  Greta is on another page and she is there every time there are pictures, almost.  Now,  I am imagining that Clayton's teacher does not like him.   I am already mad today...so this is just making me madder as i think of it...yes, snail mail may be the answer.  Maybe to the PRINCIPAL, Erin!

 Ingie had this picture on the instra site.  She got hundreds of likes.  She is loving driving herself where she needs to go.  One person said she looked just like Betty Cooper.  Well, Betty Cooper is her Great Great Great Great Grandmother, but I knew the person did not know our Betty Cooper so I googled it.   and her she is

Here is Astrid with Logan's family--his Dad's family!  Astrid is down in front by Logan's sister, Whitley.  Logan's Dad is in the orange shirt.  The lady in the sweater is his step-mom.  Logan is by his Grandmother--she has had a stroke and look how he is hugging her.  He is a nice young man.   Astrid is happy as she now has her college paid for.  She will have to keep up her grade point to keep the money, but I know she will.

New modem came today.  After 2 hours, finally I have it set up.  The Asian girl--most of the techs are Asian--said we must have a password for the Wifi!  Nightmare.  If you have to reset the smart tv, you have to sign it all in again.  The tv hangs up and you have to reset it.   They are afraid someone might steal a little "juice".  If the grandgirls came over, they would have to enter a password to use the wifi.  Finally, Gigi just threw a fit.  We have a 5 acre yard.  The wifi goes  a few hundred feet!  I told them I would be looking elsewhere for service.  Well, all of a sudden she decided, I did not have to have a password within my home.  I know if I lived in the city or even in town, I should have to enter a password, but out here...someone would have to stand on my front porch to use my wifi.

I have been ugly today.  Lord, cleanse me!

Sets Some Goals!

Greta and Clayton's Dad got their gift from Gigi and Pop put together.   Now, they can get with it--dribble,  drive, shoot!!   I love the big backboard.

Merry, Merry, Merry Christmas

Astrid raised her score on the ACT enough for a full-ride to college.  It is a great burden now for kids to decide what to do when they graduate from High School.  Now, this worry for Astrid is lifted.  She knows she can go to college and not borrow money!   Wonderful, wonderful!!

And Away in A Manger singing in the Church program.  I like Clayton's thumbs in his pockets and Greta's twisting.  They both had a speaking part.   Clayton did not seem nervous at all!



Saw this on FB.  It is Larry's Grandpa Garrison and Roger in 1950.

 My mixed bred banties Larry found for me are starting to lay.  They are a little bigger than a pure bred bantie.  I like them.  They seem very hardy.

 Larry built this top for the old sewing machine base.  His brother is giving it to an old lady for Christmas.  She lives near him and often invites him to supper.  The top has a skirt.  Larry made it from oak plywood.  It will have a stain and finish.

 Fleta or Amy~Patsy--what bird is this.  It sort of reminds me of a wren but they don't eat seeds I don't think.  So what is it.  It came this week.  So prefect and pretty.

Medal Winner

Look who earned a basketball medal!!  Yahoo!  Greta is great!  She is the prettiest too!  Just ask her Gigi!

Chapter Books

First books are just a "all together" book front to finish.  Next comes "chapter books", books with chapters.  Greta has graduated to chapter books.  She reads every night.  This chapter book is, Junie B. Jones.  Since she is a Jones, maybe Junie is her cousin!

Driving Free

 I know Ingrid loves taking herself to school each day.  One day she went to the jogging trail.  Erin said it best--"she feels free" not depending on others but herself!  I know she likes the feeling.

Astrid was caroling the day I thought she might be ringing bells. 

Clayton tried on some of last year's jeans!  High waters is what we called clothes like this.  He is growing tall.  Greta, too!
