Sing For Your Supper

“You give a girl a fish and you feed her for a day. You teach her to fish and ...

Garden Supper

Made cornbread in the iron skillet Erin discarded.  I seasoned it earlier.  It worked great.   It is a smaller iron skillet.  Thanks, Erin.
Cooked the squash one layer at a time.  It takes longer, but is not as greasy and it crispier.
I cook my green beans until all the water is gone.  Granny Renfroe said to put water in the pot until you can see it just below the top of the green beans.  Add salt and cook until it almost scorches--but doesn't, then add bacon grease!  That's the recipe and it is good.  Sometimes, I add onion to the beans.

Larry mowed today and I sat on the porch and watched him work!

June Coming To a Close

Larry has been bush hogging the pasture.  It makes Galla Meadow look so much better as it kills the weeds--they don't go to seed.
Two places were too wet but he said since he hogged on each side the rest will dry out and he can trim up the field.
I sit on the porch and watch while he works.  I am good at that....sitting I mean.
Chicks are growing but it will be another month before I can add them to the big pen.
Clayton with his birthday cake.  He said his party was "ok".  Usually children look forward to an event and when it comes it does not quite live up to what they imagined.  Adults are like that too!

Ingrid and Astrid from the beach.

Laura let the girls go parasailing today.  I know Sigrid loved it.

Looking For A Bug

My chickens love getting out to look for a bite to eat--a bug or a piece of green grass, either is tasty.

 Pictures from the beach!

Squash Picked

I picked the squash and will cook it tonight.  Below you can see what I did after I put on socks and my garden shoes to check the garden.  I have small green beans and tomatoes but they are not ready yet.
Larry bushhogged the pasture and I sat on the porch and waited for him to finish.  The Finches kept me company.
He looked right at me as to say, "what's you lookin' at".

Two of these were on the ground under the seed feeder?  What are they?  I think they are a juvenile bird, but what?

 Luke 12:27
27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
I looked at my beautiful lilies today that God clothed and thought of the above verse, but a miracle occurred in the orange lily photo take--Sister Patsy's old weathered hand is in the picture.
Astrid's picture said--Day one in Paradise!  She loves the beach.  Her sisters and mother do too!

Boiled In Honey

Another of my "I hates".    I know my girls get tired of hearing it.  I used the phrase a lot when they were growing up when I did not like their behavior.  Well, I not only hate deer.  I hate ants.  There are so many here and they invade my home.  I put ant killer around the outside of the house, but still they come.  I had a jar of honey by my sink.  I use it in oatmeal and other things instead of sugar.  It was only about a fourth full.  I had a lid, but I guess not screwed tight enough.  When I discovered them, they were everywhere on the counter and in the jar.  Well, being the Sweet Sister--Helen always says I am.  I lived up to my name and after washing the outside with soap and killing the ones outside, I put the jar in the microwave and boiled the remainder in the sticky sweetest.  Somehow, it did not make me feel good.
Fleta thinks 4 O'clocks are ugly...but they come back each year.  I have some white, yellow, pink and red.  I planted them several years ago and each year they com back from the seeds dropped.

This pretty Lily is blooming again.
 And this one
 Watermelons are loving the rains.
I fed my Inpatients with tomato fertilizer.
My Forgotten Dreams were not opened up when I took the walk around my yard this morning.
My Swamp Lilies will bloom in October.
Wish Sister Patsy were here to tell me when I can put the chicks in the big pen.
Squash blossoms--Larry had fried squash for supper last night.
Astrid's friend, Sparky, moved away.  Erin spied her photo on Instagram.
Laura gave Amy~Patsy some Hens and Chickens--Well, they bloomed.  I have never had one bloom.  That Amy~Patsy is some special gardener.
At the end of Bible School at Erin's church they always have swim party.  Looks like Clayton and Greta had a blast.

Coming Thru The Corn!

A little garden speak!
Plowed the garden today and then we got two nice showers.

The hot wire is giving me renewed vigor.  I plowed and hoed today.   Sun felt good on my shoulders! Fed the watermelons and tomatoes.  I have small yellow squash.  I picked three zucchini squash and gave them to Laura.  We prefer the yellow.
My bucket system is working out well.  Larry put the Miracle Grow in the bucket and I filled the buckets with water and the liquid fertilizer ran out slowing.
The Okra is small but growing.
All three girls came to visit today.  Astrid dropped by after work.  She is a gift!  Notice the TV.  Larry has been craving banana pudding and I made it today so we waited until Astrid came by  and enjoyed it with her.  She said she would be calling us a lot from the beach.  Not because of Pop and Gigi, but we will have her little Phoebe and she will check on her.
