March is Marching On

Clayton got a good report card.
Astrid’s new mail box is completed.
Sigrid passed out cuties for cuties in the hall during Library period.  They are hoping to bring smiles to frowning faces.

Crisis Brings....

Seems my life is one big crisis after another.  When a crisis comes to one's life it brings out the best or worst in ourselves.   Erin will be at UAMS until the baby comes.  Crisis pulls us closer to each other and shows us what is important.  It's not the dust on the table nor the weeds in the yard.  It is the dust on our heart and the weeds in our deeds.  I hope I can do a little good today and not let others down.  A simple heart filled with love is a blessing the Lord gives to only a few.  I did not get that but will do my best.

The Rose of Sharon Will Bloom Again

My friend Donna posted this and I am sharing it for I know the Rose of Sharon will bloom again!

Renter is a Worker Bee!

Greg went home with the children.  Here Greta is going to soccer.  Erin is still at UAMS.  Been there a week Tuesday.  She may have to stay with us this last stretch as we are an hour from Little Rock and Harrison is three hours.
This is to the side of the Galla House.  Astrid and Logan cut all the trees so they can have yard here.  It was solid woods.
She built a flower bed by the steps.  Laura thought it was funny. Astrid bought some red tipped Photinas and that is what I had there when we first built the house 30 years ago.
Helen, I bought her two ferns and the garden by the porch she put mostly vegetables in.

The mailbox was looking pretty bad so she is redoing it.  Larry had it on a steel post, but she is putting it on this wooden one.

Spring is Here

Astrid is building flower beds at the Galla house.
She painted the bench she designed for the back entrance to put shoes and such on.  It looks so nice.   Pop built it and she drew up how she wanted it.
Blue Birds are building in all our little houses and Mr. Raccoon came last night to try to get in my new corn feeder.  Cora put him up a tree.  I will tie her up today so he can escape.  Phinnie thought he was a horrible monster.

He tried to get away but Cora is on constant surveillance.
Logan made this for Asti for their 2nd anniversary together.  It is cedar that he cut down where he was working.  Logan and Astrid are both great kids.

Old and New

When Laura’s bunch went to Minnesota Eric’s Granddad gifted this old record player with speakers to Ingrid.  She loves vinyl records.  This one has an eight track!
Larry had a pine tree die probably because the roots were damaged from the bull dozer clean up Astrid’s friend, Logan cut it down and into pieces for him.  Larry pushed it in a pile with the kubota and probably tomorrow it will be ashes.
Erin is at UAMS today and tonight.  Abe or Ada is anxious to get here.  I think they have convinced the baby to wait.   The due date is actually May 10, so we are months away from that.  Hoping all will be okay.

Shower for Abel or Ada

Erin kept the  list and Greta opened all the gifts.  In front of the table is all the things Sister Helen made for the new one.  All handmade.  One blanket was so soft.
Fleta got a little music ornament for the baby's dresser.  Greta liked it.
Here is the cake table but the shower was a brunch and there was another table over flowing with food!
This a hand crocheted blanket.
Greta and I took a selfie in the bathroom mirror.
Greta with a table of gifts.  When she got home she put them all away, Erin said.  Erin's church is Elmwood Baptist.   The shower was really special.

Sisters Today

Fleta got a new computer and is setting all up.  She has hooked back up to the internet.  I look forward to seeing what she is doing.  She took the picture with her new “machine” as Patsy always said.  So I took one with m iPad so these photos are of us within the hour.  All I can say is we are both old.

Be Kind

This is teacher appreciation week.  Greta wrote ‘‘tis letter to her teacher and all in cursive!
Sigrid works in the Library at RHS.  This week they handed out high fives and hugs in the Hallway.
Their goal was an uplifting one.

I am gong to baby shower tomorrow at Erin’s church.

Arkansas Girls State

Ingrid is fulfilling my dreams!  Back in 1967, I was invited to attend AR Girls State and I really wanted to participate in it, but we were so poor I decided I should just work that summer.  Ingrid's going in my place, over 50 years later!

Arkansas Girls State is a summer program of education that has been sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Arkansas since 1942. As of 2014, it has provided training for more than 55,000 Arkansas girls in the fundamental aspects of citizenship and practical government. The purpose of Arkansas Girls State is to educate young women of high school age in the duties, privileges, and responsibilities of American citizenship and to provide an opportunity for them to participate in the actual functioning of their government.
The National American Legion Auxiliary, which had established a Boys State program in 1935, first sponsored Girls State in 1937–38, and as of 2014, fifty-one departments have such a program. More than 25,000 high school students participate annually. The “Girls State” is an invented “state” over which the participants must provide governmental leadership. The entire program is non-partisan in nature, with the political parties of Girls State (Nationalist and Federalist) corresponding to no current American parties. As delegates, the girls elect their own officials, organize their own legislature, and have official visits to their respective counterparts at the Arkansas State Capitol.
The first session of Arkansas Girls State was held at Arkansas State Teachers College (now the University of Central Arkansas) in Conway (Faulkner County), with 104 girls in attendance. Florence Mitchell of Fort Smith (Sebastian County) was elected as the first governor of Girls State, and Margaret Letzig served as the director. The next two sessions were held at the Arkansas School for the Deaf in Little Rock (Pulaski County). The 1945 session of Arkansas Girls State was canceled because of World War II and its resultant transportation problems and severe rationing of needed goods. In 1946 and 1947, the sessions were again held at the Arkansas School for the Deaf.
Beginning in 1948, the Girls State sessions were held at Camp Joseph T. Robinson, where they remained until 1974. At Camp Robinson, the girls were housed in small huts and, later, barracks. Enrollment reached the 1,000 mark in 1968.
For three years starting in 1975, Arkansas Girls State was held again at the University of Central Arkansas. In 1977, Claudia Kuykendall, who had been the director of Arkansas Girls State since 1944, retired. Junanne Reynolds Brown became director in 1978, and Girls State moved to Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia (Clark County). Brown stepped down as director in 1989, and Ruth Teal was appointed director, serving for two years. Pam Talbert became director in 1992 and served for five years.
In 1991, Arkansas Girls State moved to Harding University in Searcy (White County), which remains its present location, as of 2014. Angela Uekman was appointed director in 1997 and served for ten years. Charlotte Wilson was appointed director in 2007.
Arkansas Girls State was recognized as having the most outstanding Girls State program in the nation in 1980, 1983, and 1984. Arkansas Girls State is the second-largest Girls State program in the nation.

New Bird Feeding Station

My husband made me a new feeding station today for my bird feeders. Our Ash tree died and Gary cut it down for us. The birds were thrilled to have a new place to graze! The Blue birds don't eat seeds but they hang around the feeders. I enjoy the little Gray Titmouse and the Yellow Finch. I saw a Wren. Early this morning two doves came by. They eat from the ground. I am thankful for God's little feather friends. They bring me joy!
Two doves came this morning.  They eat off the ground cleaning up what the others drop.
Blue Birds don't eat the seeds.   He is looking for a bug.
Soon we will watch our St. L Cardinals!
The Yellow Finch will turn bright yellow this month!
