50 Years

Above is my 40th H S reunion--Green Forest.  Below is Fleta's 50th and I hope I get a photo tomorrow to add to my collection.  I have attended 3 reunions--10th, 40th and and maybe 25th.  But my memory is bad so maybe not!  I do not a picture.

Recuperating

Astrid's jaws sure look swollen but the wisdom teeth are gone!  Hope she feels better soon.

Happy Birthday, Siggeroo!

Sig is 13 today!  Here she is two!  She is going to the movies tonight with two friends.  She has a boyfriend at school who walks with her in the hallways.  She loves swimming.  She is a dear Granddaughter!  I hope she has a wonderful birthday and a great year.

Helen said Momma's lilac had blooms.  She covered it last night as it was cool in Carroll County.  Momma planted her bush in the yard.  She got the sprig from Grandma Gaddy.  Now, it is almost in the county road!  Things change.   Below is a bloom from the sprig she gave to me.  It is in the yard at the Galla Creek house.  It may have died as we have not tended the yard as we should.

I hope Momma's lilac has lots of blooms this year.

My devotional was about love versus knowledge.  Love builds and knowledge puffs one up--Paul said.  We should use our knowledge along with our love.   We discern!   I recall the saying, "love is blind".  Knowledge puts on our glasses and we can see what choice we should make in our love.  Lord, help me love today, but make my choice of action with knowledge!

Astrid has 4 or 5 widsom teeth removed today.  Little Greta lost a hearing aid.  Help them both today, Lord, give them strength and protect these little ones I love.

Tomorrow I attend my 50th High School reunion!  I get to see my two sisters!  That is the icing on that cake!

Simple Brownie Recipe

10 tablespoons of real butter melted in microwave
(this is one stick plus 2 T)
1 cup of real sugar
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 cup of  cocoa
2 eggs
1 tablespoon of vanilla
beat all together with spoon
add 1/2 cup of flour
bake in greased 8 by 8 inch pan at 375 degrees for 25 minutes.

I know this is a lot of vanilla, but I like vanilla.  We are not crazy about brownies but kids really like them.  Siggie tried this and said it was good.

It is a rainy day again.  Sun will shine soon though!

Scholarship Proof

Astrid ordered a few graduation announcements and she received this certificate to frame for receiving her full scholarship to Tech.   She came over today for a while.  It was really good to see her.  She said she enjoyed the trip to Greece. They flew to Moscow and then to Greece--so she went to Russia too!

Joneses are Butts!

Erin's bunch went to Winnie Jo's home town.  I am sure they are having a blast.  Erin plans what all they do before hand.

Astrid At Dephi

I hope Astrid and Eric are having a great visit to Greece.  Be glad when they are home again!

Twin Falls--Richland Creek

Twin Falls on Richland Creek is beautiful.  Not nearly as pretty when water is not flowing.  Erin and the kids had to wade the creek to get here, but it was well worth it!
Laura still works with her little client, Alivia.   She goes twice a week.  Alivia calls her LaLa!  Reminds me of Debbie Lee.
Spring is here and these will soon be gone.  I love the simple old timey flowers.

890 number works on a cell now.  I am thrilled.  Fleta did it and said I could too!  Sure helps when your big Sister goes first and you follow.  She hands out advice freely and does not care if you take it or not.

The purpose of my Blog is not to entertain.  Lordy, if it were I would be at a loss.  I use this Blog as a journal--a log!  I can go back and see what I have long forgotten.  I plan to continue but it is a chore.  I will truck on and see if I can keep it up the "rest of my life" as that is my goal.

Some Pretty Blooms

Beauty Far and Near

Astrid sent the above view of Greece and Erin took the pictures below on Richland Creek right here in Arkansas.
Erin and the two stinkers hiked to Twin Falls.  They had to cross Falling Water and Richland Creek 4 times--two going up and two coming back.  The water was really cold she said. The first time she took off her shoes and carried them but the next just left them on as she crossed.  I don't know what Greta and Clayton did--probably splashed across.

I am sure Eric knows a lot about the areas they are seeing.  It looks like sunny skies there!

Greece

Astrid and her Dad enjoying Greece.

Acropolis - Ακρόπολη

The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historic significance, the most famous being the Parthenon. The word acropolis is from the Greek words ἄκρον (akron, "highest point, extremity") and πόλις (polis, "city").  Although the term acropolis is generic and there are many other acropoleis in Greece, the significance of the Acropolis of Athens is such that it is commonly known as "The Acropolis" without qualification. During ancient times it was known also more properly as Cecropia, after the legendary serpent-man, Cecrops, the first Athenian king.

Sunday

Eric and Astrid are on their way to Greece or maybe there by now.  I hope the trip is a wonderful memory for both.
Erin's vacuum is on the blink...wonder if Greg can get it all back together!
Got new spring pictures of Robert and Hannah.  I really like them.
Erin took the kids on a hike--it maybe Grandma Henderson's cabin!

Spoiling Phinie

I try to walk Phinie on a stroll to Galla Lake everyday.  He loves it.  Larry rides him around on the four wheeler.  He will be eight months old in a few days.  He is smart and very pleasant to be around!

No More Out Houses

This morning's paper said Rhode Island had outlawed outhouses.  You have a certain amount of time to tear the structure down and fill in the area or the fine will be $1000.00 each offense.

I got my tax bill from Carroll County yesterday and they changed my school district.  I lived on the property 50 years ago and graduated from the school the taxes had always paid to.  But now there is a new map and a different school will get my money. I tried to call the number on the bill and it said the county's voice mail was not set up.  How convenient.

It is supposed to be warm today.  I am loving having sunshine.

My devotional today hit home with me.  I am so miserable I don't even know for  what I should pray.  I pray for what I don't need and want things that will not be best for me, but thankfully my Lord intercedes  and the Holy Spirit makes groanings for me that can not be uttered.  It is a good thing I am not in charge of me.  I would make such a mess of my life, but my heavenly Father is making sure it all turns out ok.  Thank you, Lord, today.

Romans 8:26 King James Version

26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
This was the Postcard in the paper today--Harrison Motor Court--1959.  You get free morning paper, free coffee and floor vented heat when you stayed here. I love the lawn chairs in front.  You get to sit there for free!

I have been reading....you say, "what else is new"!  Well, I read a new book by Melba Pattillo, one of the nine who integrated Central High.  She said from the first memories she had her life was filled with fear!  She was so afraid.  She said she felt the fear her parents had when they went to Little Rock.  She said there was no way to describe the fear she endured while at Central.  The name of the book is "I will not fear".  The book was not great, but readable.  Now, I judge a book by it being readable as so many are impossible to read!

Now, I am reading about the children who integrated the Junior High Schools in Little Rock.  There were many more students.  The book has a chapter interview of several of the students.  It is very interesting.  I don't think I thought much about this event before.  In 1961, twenty five students were selected to integrate the Junior Highs.  I would have been in the 6th grade at this time.  These children did not encounter the hatred that the 1957 bunch did, but still they had to be brave.  The students applied and were selected.  Most of the 25 are interviewed in the book.  One girl said her mother borrowed money from her granddad for a new dress ant that morning when she started to get ready, the cat had peed on her dress.  She had nothing else descent to wear.  She did her best to get the peed out before her dad took her to school.  This made them late and they missed a big hoop da loo that took place protesting the event.

I hope your day is good.  I hope you get to be in the sunshine today as it is so uplifting.  Good medicine for the soul!

Greta Shoots One-Handed!!

I must remember when I post a video to hit don't select other videos to watch.  Greta's suggestion afterwards had a woman with exposed upper body.  I was able to redo it and hit the do not suggest button.  Sorry, if you saw the exposed woman!  Glad if you enjoyed seeing Greta.  You still tell she has a hearing problem, but her speech continues to improve.  She had all 0's on her report card--O is for OUTSTANDING!

Smart Club

Ingrid was inducted in to the National Honor Society last evening.  She is showing off her certificate with her friend, Avery.  They started to take the photo and the picture taker told Ingrid her award was upside down!  So much for the smart club.

Larry sold another tractor today.  I have forgotten how many since he decided to get rid of some of his prizes!  This one was a Farmall 100 with several pieces of equipment.  It went to Lead Hill, AR.

Helen got a new dishwasher to her.  She did not even have a dishwasher.  She bought it used for 25 dollars and Gilbert installed it for her.  I use my dishwasher, but it takes several days before it is full enough.  I just leave the dishes hidden in there until I have a load.  I have to add bleach to the dish washing soap, but I don't like washing dishes so i like having the dishwasher.  I think it gets the dishes cleaner.  I do not put pans in my dishwasher.  Nothing metal goes in...just plastic and glass.

Good Company Today

Clayton and Greta and Erin came today.  It was really good to see them.  Sigrid and Laura came over too.
Erin brings their bikes and they ride.  We walked to Galla Lake and they explored the rocks near our Galla House.
Want to wish Sigrid good luck tomorrow at Heber Springs, AR.  She will be running the mile--with a smile--I hope.

Shooting Form

Greta and Clayton played their last game today with Upwards Basketball.  Greta is showing off her shooting form in her picture.  Erin says she wants the ball and wants to shoot it!   Wish I could have been there to watch them both today.

It is warm and I am happy.  Thank you, Lord, for a beautiful day.

And here is that smiling boy in his basketball picture.  Tall and handsome!

Bird Watching

I love sitting on my porch and watching the birds enjoying their food.  Yesterday, I watched this woodpecker eating.
After he finally retrieved a sunflower seed from the mesh, he would fly away to a limb and hold it on the wood with his feet and peck it until he could get to the center kernel.  Over and over he worked getting only a small bite with each labor.  He likely used the energy from the seed getting it out!
I stayed outside most of yesterday and plan to get back out in the sun today.

Erin said she would try to come Sunday.  We have not seen her since Christmas so we are looking forward to that day.
