New Year~Lord, hold me fast--Let me stand in the hollow of your hand!!

This is Galla Creek. She is flowing. A dam has her
flow blocked but daily she keeps moving on. I am going
to do that in 2008. I will keep flowing on doing as
I have always done. If you have troubles this New
Year and wonder "what am I going to do". My advice is
to just keep flowing. You see your path may be
blocked but just keep flowing on and one day you
will have the victory!

In the dark of the midnight, have I oft hid my face
While the storm howls above me and there's no hiding place
Mid the crash of the thunder, Precious Lord, hear my cry
Keep me safe til the storm passes by.

Santa Game to Galla Creek Lane

My three girls are off visiting their Great
Grandmother in Nebraska, but I stopped by this
morn to see if Santa remembered them and he did.
If they get to a computer today maybe they will
peak at what he left.

Wishing You "good life"

Pope County Courthouse--December 21, 2007

I was wondering if Helen and Fleta remembered
the year we went to Grandma and Grandpa
Gaddy's for Christmas. It must have been
about 1963. I wish each would scan the
pictures they have from the day and post
them. I can't remember much about the day.
I do remember going.

I remember going to Grandpas in the
summetime and Daddy stopping on the
way home somewhere and getting
us all ice cream cones. It probably
cost a lot with the car full.
I took Momma to Jim's Drive Inn a few
times after Daddy passed. She loved
getting a milk shake or ice cream cone
there. Once we went over to near
where they sold apples and ate a meal.
She thought it was such a treat.

I hope when I get old my kids love me
like we all did Momma. Helen says that
one of her last cognitive sentences was
"I have had a good life". You know I
could say that same thing about my own
life.

I wish you all 'a good life'. What more
could anyone want?

Christmas trees have changed!

Powell family tree 1957

Larry's Great Grandparents tree 1947

Christmas trees have really changed
over the years. We always had those
tin foil icicles to hang on the tree
but most of the other stuff...we made.
Pat McCormack is in front of Larry's
Great Grandparents tree in 1947. His
stocking is hung and looks like it
has an apple or orange in it. I like
the way the gifts are wrapped and tied
up with string.

Company from Home!

Fleta and George came last night but
left early this morning. His surgery is
before 8:00.

I did not take pictures. George was
tired and Fleta helped me get my new
computer set up.

The picture is one Fleta took where
we all grew up. I like the view from
the hill. That is where we used to hide
and not answer when Momma called us to
come to the house and we wanted to keep
playing.

Helen's Legacy

This is one of the Christmas ornaments
Helen sent my girls when they were small.
I have been looking for it to give to
Erin and now I find it on her tree
already. I know my brain is fried.

I don't know how Helen made such
pretty printing on it. She made
several pretty things and sent them
to my girls. I know they wanted to
move and live with her as their Mother
is an old sour puss.

Old and New!

Daughter comes to visit in 1966...in
new pickup...to the house of her
growning up. Which would she hold
most dear....old or new?

Surgery!

Siggie can be in the Nutcracker, too!
She is showing me how well she can
dance. Tomorrow she is going to have
her adnoids removed and tubes put in
her ears, again. She says huh? a lot.
No telling what she will repeat when
she can hear it all. She already
says "damnit" occasionally! Wonder
where she heard that!

Win's Weather!

Winnie posted these pictures
over a year ago of her big snow.
I think Winnie is in a storm
again, but this time it is ice.
Just to let her know ... I have
that Vista too! Keep trying, Win,
you will figure it all out!

Ingrid

Ingrid light the candle of peace at church today.
I don't think my photo turned out because
I had my new camera on video...ooops. But
before church I took this picture of her.
She is an angel in the Nutcracker ballet
this weekend. She is a busy girl. She loves
to cook and play with barbie dolls.

My girls!

This is the newest picture of my
three Norwegian girls--Astrid, Ingrid,
and Sigrid. I think Siggie looks so
sweet here...with her little arms
crossed! This was taken at K Mart.

Year Ago!

Well, I went yesterday to check on
my old computer and I will be able to
get my pictures and documents back to
November 16. It crashed and burned on
Nov. 24. I looked back a year ago and
found this one of Astrid and I on one
of our big rocks. Since, we have a new
computer ...I am trying to figure out
the best way to post to this site. I
probably will not connect the old one
to the internet. I may put all my
documents and photos on it and when I
want to load something...I will save it
to a pin drive and upload from my laptop.

Probably...I will just use this new
computer. Time will tell. Next year I
can look back and see what I was thinking
about doing and ponder on how well it
worked.

Street Cleaner

Astrid walked the Galla Lake trail
where I take my stroll. She swept
the street like a fairy with a wand.
Now my street is free of litter.

Little Sister, Don't You Cry!

When Siggie wants something she crys
and we cave right in...her sisters do
too. Siggie always manages to find a
a soft spot to have her cry!

Little sister don't you cry
Lay your head down close your eyes
Your heart is aching
Mine is aching for you
Little sister don't you cry
Lay your head down close your eyes

Still on the Lap Top

I am still using this laptop...not
good at it either. I will get a new
computer and the tech is trying to
get my docs and pics off the old one.

I looked through my yahoo mail and
found a few photos and other stuff.
I smiled when I read the email
Fleta sent me about a 1948 reunion
at Green Forest and one Helen sent
saying she and Patsy were blogging.
That was Feb. of 06 so soon they
will have been entertaining me for
two years and I like their show
better than any on tv.

Well here is the old newspaper
clip.
Green Forest Tribune, Thursday, June 17, 1948

Reunion Held at R. M. Powell Home
A family reunion was enjoyed at the
R. M. Powell home, near Sunny Lane,
last weekend.
Those Present were: Mrs. George
Reed and son, Jimmy; Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Merk and Winnie Jo, all of St. Louis, Mo:
Mr. and Mrs. Charge Knight and son, Robert
Lewis of Oakland, California; Mrs. Tom
Gawltney, Tommy Lou, Bobbye, Barbara Sue
and Larry of Alton, Mo; Mr. and Mrs. Truman
Powell, Jimmy, Donnie, Virginia Lee and Frankie
Rea of Denver; Mr. and Mrs. Willis Powell,
Patsy Ann, Richard, Clayton and Fleta Mae
of Douglas; Mrs. Bill Brannick and son,
Mike of Berryville; Mrs. Iva Knight of
South Green Forest; Mr. and Mrs. Jesse
Powell and family of Green Forest and
Floyd of the home.
Sunday was spent visiting and taking
pictures. This was the first time the
grandchildren were ever all home at the
same time, and all the in-laws, except
George Reed of St. Louis, and Tom Gwaltney
of the Vet's Hospital at Little Rock.
Many pleasant memories remain of this
get-to-gether.

In 1948, my grandmother Powell was the
age I am today....57. Time marches on.

Computer Problems

We are having computer troubles so I
guess this will be called a vacation. I can
still post to your blogs with the lap top.
But I am slow with it and until we get
going again "I'll be on vacation!"

Butchering Day

The picture is of Pat McCormack 1951 at
Falling Water, AR on butchering day. When
the November cold finally came all families
butchered one or two hogs. I remember the
day growing up. The hog had to be scraped.
The skin was left on the meat. After it was
butchered and cut up, it was salted down
and put in the smoke house where it would
keep during the cold winter. Momma would
cut bacon from the side of bacon to fry each
morning. We would have bacon, oatmeal,
homemade biscuits, and fried eggs--Mom
never scambled the eggs. Butchering day
was a lot of work, but it was a happy time
where there was a lot to eat and lots of
laughter. We always had tenderloin as
the first meal she cooked from
the hog. We did not ever cut pork chops
from the hog. I bet Patsy has lots of
memories of butchering day!

Falling Water November 21, 2007

Here is Falling Water Falls...taken yesterday.
Erin has to work tonight. So we will have Thanksgiving
twice--today and Sunday. Today, we are having
dressing and with chicken in it. Laura is making
something...she saw in a cookbook..with turkey
breast. I made fresh apple cake. I cooked the
cranberry sauce. I found a recipe I like in the AR
Democrat, but I threw it in the trash by mistake.
I remembered it had maple syrup in it. So I found
one on the net...but I can't go by the recipe so I
added orange marmalade to it. We are having
mashed white potatoes and gravy because 3 little
girls like them...and their Papa does too. We are
having Aunt Helen rolls, but it took an hour to
find where I had put the recipe I copied off her
blog. But Eureka! I found it ...and I better get
going because she said hers were rising and I
have not even gotten the mixer out for mine.
Wish Erin were here. She is sick to her stomache
a lot! She has to work 12 hours tonight. I am
thankful all the brothers and sisters and my own
little family most of all!!!

Green Forest Grade School 1956

I started school this year. Now, Arkansas
is saying that Green Forest needs to upgrade
some of their structures, but Green Forest
will not pass a milage. The patrons feel
broke....like most of us.
