Reading....

Well, I got my book last evening and I have read about half of it. I may be cynical but I am not stupid. I think the book will prove that any good, God fearing, responsible human will be ruined by the pursuit of power. The most powerful position in the world is President of the USA. Pursuit of this position will destroy one the fastest. John Edwards and his wife both became spoiled brats with just a little taste of power. Read the book!

Cynical

Riding along with Laura last week...she used this word to describe me--CYNICAL. And she is so right. I am often cynical about everything and even tho I try to state positive stuff on here for anyone who cares to look. In nearly every situation that arises, the bad side of it creeps into my thoughts and I focus on that instead of good stuff. I don't know why I am like this. I think Daddy tried to look at the positive side of everything and Momma did not look she just went along in the moment. I don't think you can actually change something like this that is in the core of who you are...so I try to cover it up to others. Wish I were Miss Happy Sappy, but I am not and never will be I am afraid. I am better described Hateful Hannah.

Erin's Mystery

Someone came to Erin's house over the weekend and left a jar of Peter Pan peanut butter in her mail box. Now, she is trying to figure out who? I was her first guess...she thought we might have drove up there and left it. No. Did Helen drive from AZ and leave it for her. Did Fleta or Clayton Powell do it. Well, Erin's checks dates and the date was expired. I told her it would be fine to eat! Did you do it?

Just around the corner

Entertaining

While Laura was cooking hamburgers the other evening, Siggie was keeping her guests occupied with interesting conversation. Misa is from Japan. We all enjoy her immensely.

Saints Come Marching In

Laura invited us over to watch the Super Bowl with Dustin Garrison (Larry's nephew) and his wife. Eric and Dustin were for the Colts so Larry rooted for the Saints. The girls and Dustin's wife Misa, Laura and I all played Yatzee. I had not played in a long time. What was best was Laura's good food. She also cooked hamburgers. Thanks for the entertaining night, Laura.

Erin, was this better?

Across the Way

These are our next door neighbors. I don't even know their name. What is worse is--I don't even want to know their name. I could be a hermit.

Clear and Cold

Took this about 8 this morning. Clear and cold with no school again. This tree is a Tulip Poplar and I hope I get the smell the blooms this year. We bought the Meadow House in August and did not sleep here until November 1st. I am hoping the spring brings satisfaction to living here.

For Patsy

Bubba Had Shingles--But this could be Patsy!!
Those of us who spend much time in a doctor's office should appreciate this! Doesn't it seem more and more that physicians are running their practices like an assembly line? Here's what happened to Bubba:

Bubba walked into a doctor's office and the receptionist asked him what he had. Bubba said: "Shingles." So she wrote down his name, address, medical insurance number and told him to have a seat.

Fifteen minutes later a nurse's aide came out and asked Bubba what he had.
Bubba said, "Shingles." So she wrote down his height, weight, a complete medical histor y and told Bubba to wait in the examining room.

A half hour later a nurse came in and asked Bubba what he had. Bubba said, "Shingles." So the nurse gave Bubba ablood test, a blood pressure test, an electrocardiogram, and told Bubba to take off all his clothes and wait for the doctor.

An hour later the doctor came in and found Bubba sitting patiently in the nude and asked Bubba what he had. Bubba said, "Shingles." The doctor asked, "Where?"
Bubba said, "Outside on the truck. Where do you want me to unload 'em?"

Mano, Missouri

Althought this area of the Ozarks has been occupied since pre-historic time(10,000 BC) with the Llano Indians this little town has all but dwindled away into oblivion except for a few of the falling in structures most of which are completly on the ground.

Mano means hand or handstone used by the Indians to grind corn the other part is called the Metate'.

It is now listed as Cato. There is no population within the Old Mano area.

Worthy said he was born in Cassville, MO. but if you look on Rootsweb we have the town in Barry County they were born called Mano. Grandpa Powell was born in Bates County, Missouri. They moved to Barry from Bates. Mano, Missouri is no more. It is a ghost town and it was abandoned due to economics--no jobs. Grandma and Grandpa Powell left Mano I believe because Della lived in Carroll County and Bettie really wanted to move where her daughter lived. Really don't know this but I think it. Also, they were building a railroad there and the young sons could find employment on this railway. Here are some photos of Mano today!

Why?

Do you ever wonder why? Well, I wonder a lot and it is mostly about dead folks. Why did Worthy Powell take his wife and kids to Oklahoma/Kansas. Could be for a job. Putting bread on the table, but usually there is another reason. I found the McKaigs in this location earlier than Worthy. So they went to because her mother and father were there. The Mckaigs had also lived at Carrollton, AR.
Jesse and Grandpa were teachers. John Powell and Worthy never followed this profession. I was thinking that someone said Worthy did not like farming, but I may have dreamed it. We have moved from a society were about 3/4 of the country are farmers to one where it is rare. Out of all of us only Richard was really a farmer.

Worthy Powell

Name: Worthie Powell
Spouse: Grace G
Birth: abt 1888 - Missouri
Residence: 1925 - Lawn, Harper, Kansas
There is a 1925 census in Kansas. Worthy Powell is on it and Richard and Bettie are living with him. Says he is a farmer. Also, he registered for the draft before WWI
He says he has a stiff knee and hip. That was from that awful train accident he had when Grandpa and Grandma Powell tried to get him help.

Girls with the Troll

Clayton is smart as he would have nothing to do with the troll.

Clayton's Great Adventure

Erin and Laura and the three grand girls and one super grand boy went to Little Rock to see Three Billy Goats Gruff! Sisters, I know you remember this story as it was usually in our Green Forest readers in the fairy tale section. I know I loved it.... Erin sent this from that fancy cell phone--
When they got here last night Clayton cried for his A (Astrid).

Home Today

Winnie said she would come home today. Hope all is going well.

Granny and her Cousin, Aunt Una

Here is Una's family in 1900 near Carrollton. Her father was Anderson Taylor Coxsey.
Una is not on the Calendar this month. She was born in Aug. Una's mom was a Crockett and the family always said they were kin to Davy. Patsy said Prude married a Carl Bishop and Beulah married Jesse and Richard Powell's brother, John. Grandmother's Mother was Sarah Coxsey, whose father was Benjamin, whose father was Absolum. A. T.'s father was James whose father was John. Granny and Una were not very close kin folk. Patsy, Fleta...tell me how they were kin?
