Poor Man Has Poor Ways
Erin and Greg got a brand new back door. They brought us the old one. It was just a door and did not have the jam. Larry wanted to put it on the garage to replace this old nasty one which was up. The old door would not even shut correctly. A new door with a glass is pretty expensive so this week Larry worked and built a jam and fit the door into the opening. The new door is wider than the old one so the old jam had to be torn out. It really turned out nice. It shuts like a dream. Larry built the outer trim out of two by fours. I like it. He said he may paint the door frame red and will have to repaint the door a tan color. We feel like we are up town now.

Helen Stripped
What year is the question! It is hot summer, perhaps August. Daddy was working at night on Table Rock is my guess. Something cold was in the refrigerator pan in the middle of the table! My guess on the year is 1957. Helen would be 3 years old. Happy Birthday a day early, Sister. I am working again and tomorrow I might not have enough energy to make a post.

Clayton's Grandpa
Clayton's Papa at Harrison is in Kansas City, MO getting a new kidney and liver. The surgery lasts over 12 hours. He has had kidney disease all his short life. I think he is about 50. Erin and Greg are there and Clayton is with a relative in Branson, Mo. He was so weak and pulled down that the surgery is very risky, I hope he can see Clayton grow a little more and hold Greta Ann.

It's So Hot here!
IT'S SO HOT AND DRY Here..........
IT'S SO HOT AND DRY Here.......... ....the birds have to use potholders to pull the worms out of the ground. ....the trees are whistling for the dogs. ....the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance. ....hot water comes from both taps. ....you can make sun tea instantly. ....you learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron. ....the temperature drops below 95 F (35 C) and you feel a little chilly. ....you discover that in July it only takes two fingers to steer your car. ....you discover that you can get sunburned through your car window. ....you actually burn your hand opening the car door. ....you break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 A.M. ....your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death"? ....you realize that asphalt has a liquid stage. ....the potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add butter. ....the cows are giving evaporated milk. ....farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs. IT'S SO DRY Here That the Baptist are starting to baptize by sprinkling, The Methodists are using wet-wipes, Presbyterians are giving rain checks, And the Catholics are praying for the wine to turn back into water! |

Old Pictures
I love old pictures. This one was shared with me and I love the latch on the gate and the fence. Almost all the yards of old folks had some type of fence to keep the animals out is my take on it.
Henry Hensley was born in Clay County, KY in 1861 and died in Forrest City, AR in 1953. His wife was Cynthia Sizemore. Henry died by being hit by a train if not he might of hit 100.

We got Rain!
On the way to see Clayton, we stopped and took a picture of Felix Sizemore's grave for his grandson in Sacramento, CA. The cemetery bears the sign but C. L. Boyd says the name of it is New Freeman Cemetery. Granny's cousin Ella Keys had the sign put up. I bet it will now always be known as God's Little Half Acre--well, except to C. L. Boyd.
We got a nice rain and at6:30 it is 79 degrees outside! Tomorrow in the 90s and then creep back to the 100s by weekend! Enjoy the day!

New School Clothes
The girls said not long ago--wonder if Gigi will take us shopping this year. And today we went. Astrid chose more tops and it seems like she has more, but Ingrid went for complete duds! Siggie's size is still 5 or less. She is a string bean. Her stuff costs less so she got more in total.
They tried on each outfit for Pop and he loved each one. When we pulled up to the house, Astrid asked her Mother if she could show Pop what she got so that is why I have a picture of each.
As I set and watched them, I remember picking material from the National Bella Hess catalog. I recall one year, Momma sewed the entire outfits on her fingers. I can recall a blue plaid with some pink and green in it. We each got 3 outfits. How her fingers much have hurt sewing it all by hand. She would sit out in the yard at night and work on the clothes. We were so proud of them...just like my girls today. Helen probably does not remember ordering material and Momma making all our stuff but I am sure Patsy and Fleta do. What a loving Momma she was.
I posted each outfit below under my girls names. Someday, I will have an entry labeled Greta Ann's New Garb!
Ingrid's Choices
Astrid's Picks
Astrid does not like to shop just sales. She likes to look for what she wants and get it and go. Erin was always like that. She had a stack of stuff she tried on but these are the outfits she picked. She will be in the 5th grade. She is not going to wear anything that shows her bra or underwear. Astrid is 10 years old.

Deep Seas
A guy from Baton Rogue bought one of pups this year. He sent this picture from the rig he works on. If the drilling in the Gulf stops all those guys will be without jobs. We sold pups to two men from LA who worked off the Coast of Vietnam. They work 28 days on and then have 28 days home. All three have worked on rigs most of their adult life. The wage is much, much more that any job they could get on land.
