Second Cutting

The second cutting of Galla Meadow made more hay than in the spring. Now, I am wishing for a rain to turn it all a pretty green before frost!

Surprise Lilies

Surprise Lily, Magic Lily, Naked Lady

My surprise Lilies are blooming. These bulbous plants belong to the amaryllis family and are native to southern Japan. The five to seven pink four inch long trumpets are produced atop the pale, naked three foot tall stems and always remind me of a flock of flamingos standing in a shallow pool at Disney World. The flowers are sterile and do not develop seed pods. The bulbs are as long as three inches in diameter with long necks and persist for years once established. The foliage comes up in late winter and looks like a large-leafed clump of daffodils, but without flowers. There will be one bloom for about every 10 leaves produced by the clump. The leaves die away with the arrival of the first warm days of late spring, usually disappearing below ground by late May. This growth pattern is an adaptation of the species to survive in an area with moist springs and prolonged periods of summer

Elizabeth and Hazel

This book is about Elizabeth Eckford and Hazel Massery. Elizabeth is the black girl with the books and Hazel is behind her yelling. The book follows both lives. I think they are about 70 now. The book was really good and I recommend it as an interesting read.

My Fire Pit

This was my birthday present. I know it was from Laura but forget if it was from Erin too. It finally got cool enough to have a fire in it. Siggie like the marshmallows roasted there.

Little Hagar and Siggie

Hagar was so little we did not have her tail docked. Of course, she is Siggie's favorite of the Tie/Patch pups.

Hot or Cold

Already, I am thinking about being cold this winter. I got so cold last winter....now that I am in my 60s I notice I hate being really hot and worse I hate being really cold. Patsy, my butane was 390.00 for a tank. I think it said it was 2.39 a gallon. We will have to fill it again before winter is over, I don't want much...
Oatmeal for breakfast plus a good pot of coffee.
Anything on lunch
Nothing much sounds good for supper if I cook it. If we eat out it tastes better.

As you get older your priorities really shift. You just want comfort and a good book to read.

Company Today

Siggie always helps us out with Clayton. When he got really tired today, they settled down and watched Tangled. It is a cute Disney movie.

Little Red Grew Up

She peddled her bike down Dog Alley at age four. I watched from the window. I keep watching her that way years later. She is 37 today. Hope this next year is an easy one for her.
