Sigrid's Big Dance

Sigrid was excited about her Cotillion finale.  Ingrid did her make up just like going to a professional.  Laura styled her hair.  I know she will remember this occasion for the rest of her life!
Ingrid did not cover all of Sig's freckles.  Isn't she pretty.
Laura did Sigrid's hair and look at the back.  It is perfect.
The cotillion is a social dance, popular in 18th-century Europe and America. Originally for four couples in square formation, it was a courtly version of an English country dance, the forerunner of the quadrille and, in the United States, the square dance. It was for some fifty years regarded as an ideal finale to a ball but was eclipsed in the early 19th century by the quadrille. It became so elaborate that it was sometimes presented as a concert dance performed by trained and rehearsed dancers. The later "German" cotillion included more couples as well as plays and games.
You can see the white gloves above and below is Sigrid with her friend Marlie.
Sigrid and her date!  What a couple.

Above Sigrid is dancing with Dad and below with a male friend.  Laura has too good of manners to muscle her way into the crowd for a picture.
The girls must accept all dances.  I recall Astrid telling me that she sat by her friend Meredith and when a young man asked Mere to dance, she said--"I hate your guts" as she got up with a smile.
