Siggie, Sumac and A Sprig

Siggie is trying teaching.  Today is her first day.  She’s assigned to Mrs Babb, a science teacher.  She will be in her room as an assistant and observer letting her experience what teaching is like.  She considering teaching as a career.  This will help in her decisions about her future.  Math and science are Sig’s strongest subjects.  I hope her day is educational and helpful to Mrs. Babb.

Cow Parsley and Sumac caught my eye this morning.  The delicate white flowers of cow parsley (wild carrot) resemble lace, and is called Queen Anne’s lace.  The Anne may referred to Queen Anne (1665-1714; reigned 1702-14). Although she had many pregnancies, Anne left no surviving children.  Queen Anne’s lace is generally understood to refer to its lace-like appearance, but also her tragic child losses.  Sumac’s leaves turn red early. Sumac is used as a spice, as a dye, and in medicine.  My Dad was allergic to Sumac and would break out like others do around poison ivy.
