Ada gets to be Cinderella this evening. Erin is taking her to the assisted living center nearby. The residents and Ada will joyous.

Darla
Every year Laura dresses for Halloween. This year she’s Darla from Finding Nemo. She created those braces and head gear from a hanger, paper clips and the backs of ear rings. She does her costume shopping at Marva and Salvation Army stores!
Today is about the hardest day of the year for teachers. Laura’s school has 4th and 5th graders. I saw her come home a little early. She was exhausted and had ear ache from being outside all afternoon in the wind. I remember thinking—could I just call in sick today?Monday, October 30, 2023
Pickin’ Walnuts
My cousin Frankie sent me this picture of a walnut pie saying this is what I should do with the walnuts.
Growing up we picked up walnuts and sold them. We put them in gunny sacks and Dad hauled them to the sellers but I don’t know if there is still a market for them.Agent Ada
Ada is ready for Halloween. She’s agent Oprah from the Kids PBS The Odd Squad! The show’s focus is math concepts. I just know she’s a detective. She has the pearls too, but Erin said those weren’t allowed at school. Ada gets this role she is playing. She’s excited to be Agent Oprah💜💜

Sister Came
Got myChevy truck back. It was the water pump. Better than motor or transmission. It was running hot. I notice the gauges. Eric took it in for me. Nearly 1000 dollars. They replaced several belts. It’s 17 years old and this is its first repair. Can’t complain.
Sister Helen brought the baby quilts for my great grands that don’t exist but someday they will she said and she’ll be gone. She is thoughtful about so many things.
Yesterday we had light rain most of the day and we really needed it. Not a lot fell it all soaked in.

Last Load
Last load of hay hauled away. I don’t think there is anything more beautiful than mown pastures. I am a farmer’s daughter.

New Chicks
Astrid gave me 5 new pullets. The dark chicken with the reddish neck is a Maran. The solid black is an Easter Egger. The three red hens with white are red sex linked chickens. The Maran lays a dark brown egg. The black hen lays a blue egg and the sex linked lay brown eggs. I have a dozen chickens again.

New Throne
I wanted a taller toilet. Today, Brandon the plumber came and put it in. Logan bought it so I could get the right one. American Standard is what Larry always bought and that’s what this one is. It’s 2 inches taller. Brandon also installed a new cutoff so if I need to cut off the water I can do it. The old one was full of dirt.
I’m having trouble with my washer drain. Brandon said he couldn’t fix it. I’ll need Logan to dig it out. Well, at least I got two items fixed.
My car is at Toyota dealer. Something with the electric clutch. Only has 20,000 miles. It’s warranted. This has been a problem with Rav 4. Hope this fixes the groan and clunk when it shifts from first to second.

Using My Camera
Carried my new camera this morning on my walk and was quite surprised at what I saw in the skies! Were they also looking down at me and taking my picture! We were connected but distant. I know my camera is nothing special but never the less I'm enjoying it!
Yesterday, October 16, I got my flu shot and my Pfizer Covid booster. My pharmacist said I could get them in the same arm so I got both in the left arm. I felt a little abnormal this morning but I’m good now. Glad to get that done.Monday, October 16, 2023
Black Angels
We saw what it was like to live with a disease without a cure. Tuberculosis was just that in the early 1900’s. No cure. No antibiotics. Get it and then wait to grow weaker and weaker. Many states opened hospitals called sanatoriums. We had one at Booneville, AR. They were TB jails. Contain and conquer. In Arkansas the sanatoriums had lots of guests. I’d never thought of what it was like in a big city like New York. Statin Island had a big “hospital”. Nurses often tested positive after working there a while. All the Caucasian nurses soon quit. What to do? Enter the black angels! That’s what this book is about. It has a happy ending!
