Quilted Valentine

My Laura’s  handmade quilted Valentine is so special. She knows me like no other! My favorite color is tan. I love sunny  days and my feathered friends! A cookie with my coffee is a treasured enjoyment!

Sugar Wheel Yarn

My latest baby blanket is finished. This is one of those sugar rolls that changes color down the wheel.

My next blanket is to be sage green and light pink. I’ll probably wait till next week to get the yarn as it’ll be on sale. I have a green and a pink but sage green is a duller green. I have a new pattern to try.

I lifted weights and went to yoga yesterday.

It was supposed to rain yesterday. We only got a sprinkle. It’s really dry here. Burn ban is on.

February 10

Patsy’s picture keeps getting clearer. Another FB friend had someone work on it.
Laura got her diploma yesterday. She is a specialist for certain.
Greta was the star of the basketball game last night. With three seconds left, she got the ball and drove for a layup. She was clobbered. She hit both free shots and the Gobs were on top by one. She stole the ball on the throw in. The game ended with a win. If I’d have been there, I’d be dead with a heat attack.

Super Bowl LX

My good friend Kay Nuttleman and I attended Coach’s funeral Saturday.  The service was very uplifting. God bless his lovely family.

I made a dough cover for Marie who is in my exercise class. She said she wished for one. Her kitchen is yellow.
I went to Eric and Laura’s for the Super Bowl. Laura fixed taco salad. It was really good. She made rice chrispy treats for dessert. I came home before halftime. I have two friends who are Seahawks fabs so I cheered for them. I thought the halftime program projected togetherness and love. This was the sky on the way home.  There is light if we look for it.
I’m going to try this baby blanket next.

Misfortune

The sky was pretty pink this morning.
This happened during the storm. The camper was totaled. The Kubota is at Kubota being repaired. The carport had to be dismantled. Logan came over and moved my car and buggy from under my portable carport. Their insurance covered half the carport cost. They are tough kids.

This is Ingrid’s cartoon. She is a nuclear technician and her specialty is the heart. 💗

Eagles in Galla Meadow

Yesterday I saw a big bird chasing the Redtail Hawks out of Galla Meadow. It was an eagle. 🦅 well, someone else doesn’t like hawks. Picture from the internet, not mine, but I’m going to try and capture them if I see the chase again.

Ingrid and Justin went to a Mardi Gras parade.  They went to one in Baldwin County, very safe. Ingrid said this float reminded her of Astrid’s Spirit horse. Other girls had dolls to play with but Astrid had horses and farms.

Sigrid applied for a part time pharmacy tech job at Children’s Hospital.  There were lots of folks interviewing. Her two wisdom teeth will be cut out March 5.

Cyclone of 1927

If you know an elderly person go interview them.  They have a lot to share. Interview with Aunt Thelma Powell Gwaltney May 21, 1989 by Fleta Powell Aday

Aunt Thelma said.....Grandpa Richard Powell was well liked and respected by his sons.  He was a very honest man.  That carried a lot of weight with my Dad.  “Grandpa never spoke a word to me.  He hardly ever said anything.”

My Dad Melton, Jesse, John, and Worthy were all at Grandpa’s helping him make something.  He was using a drawing knife on a piece of wood.   Grandpa was pulling the tool toward him when it slipped and sliced all the way down his leg.  The sons tried to see how bad it was, but Grandpa just shouted “get me in the house, get me in the house”.  They tried to get him to let him look at his leg but he said just cut the leg of my overalls.   I feel the blood in my shoe.  They cut the leg of his new overalls and there was only a little scratch and a few drops of blood. He jerked the pant leg down and said “let’s get back to work”.  Aunt Thelma said he was a big baby.

When Richard and Betty Powell moved to Nowata, OK, Thelma said her Dad and mother and all the children went to Berryville, AR and stayed over night and saw them off the next day.  They went by train.

The night the tornado (March 18, 1927) hit their house, Truman and Thelma held the back door shut and their Dad held the front door shut.  They couldn’t keep the door completely closed but kept the house from being completely destroyed they thought.  The storm damaged the house.  Several large oak trees were blown down in the front yard. They were right in front of the house.  This may have helped block the wind from the house.  The next day Melton set out for Green Forest to check on his brother, Jesse, and his family.  The storm picked Uncle Jesse’s house up from the foundation and set it back crooked.  The next day Aunt Thelma had to follow a hen turkey around all day to find its nest.  The turkey and Aunt Thelma were scared because of all the confusion.  Grandpa Melton Powell went to Alpena the next day to get shingles to fix the roof, but he came home with lumber to build a new chicken house.  Thelma thought maybe the frame of the house was damaged because Grandpa decided to build a new house.  The storm completely destroyed the old chicken house so Grandpa built a new chicken house first.  The family lived in the new chicken house while he built the house.  He tore the old house down. The chicken house had a dirt floor.  They had a wood stove in it.  Grandpa had built a platform across one end and the children slept on that on mattresses.  Winter came before the house was finished.  Snow would blow in the chicken house cracks of the chicken house!

Hawks

The hawks are catching my cardinals.  I went to Dollar Tree and bought this plastic tray, cut a home if the middle and hung it over the flat feeder. The hawks will only fly down to an open target. I really don’t like hawks. I can’t let my chickens free range because of them.

Words of wisdom from six year old Miss Ada—“when I grow up and have kids if they don’t mind they’re getting whuppins’ and if my husband doesn’t mind he’s gettin’ one too.”  She jabbers away as they ride to Greta’s games. Erin plays a book to get her to focus. Greta played great last night. They beat Rogers, AR. She had 3 three pointers, scored 15 points.

Finally

Laura and Astrid created happy caricatures of Pop and I with AI. They made me smile.

I cleaned the front sidewalk and finally the storm is becoming a memory or a nightmare wanted to be forgotten.
Laura’s Valentine pop holders are neat as they have a place to insert your hand and grip what you are picking up.

I may go to the library today. I have puzzles and books to return. Tomorrow I lift weights with Lisa again. Life is returning to normal. I’m going to the post office to get my mail as it’s still not being  delivered—12 days.

Tuesday

Astrid finished her paint by number painting.

I’m thankful I have a good exercise bike so I can still get my cardio fitness even when the weather is frightful. It also helps my arthritic pain. I’m listening to the Bible as I peddle each day. Maybe this year I can ride all the way through the good Book. I’m almost through Genesis.

I chopped all the ice from behind my car yesterday. It gave me something to do. I had these two tire tracks but it was solid ice so I’m glad to get it cleared. I took sherbet to get my mail but still it’s not being delivered. I haven’t had mail since last Friday. This is a first for my 75 years.  Oh, well…..
This picture is from North Little Rock, AR. Frozen snakes! Yipes!

February 2

I found this puzzle in the closet. This morning I finished it. Logan E. and Siggie came yesterday they helped me a bit. I’m not great at this but like to have some different things to occupy my time.

Each Sunday Laura and a teacher at the same school as hers ( different buildings} hike straight up to the top of Mount Nebo. The teacher’s mother passed away over the weekend. Astrid accompanied her and they made it to the top and down again. Today both Laura and Eric are in school. Siggie has to go to UAMS. I hope she arrives safely.

The front of my house faces north. Most of the snow and ice are still with me. I’ll just wait it out. It’ll finally melt. I’m existing still. I wouldn’t call this living.

February 1

Yesterday the high was still below freezing but my hens laid 8 eggs. I think warmer weather is ahead! It’s noon here and still only 30. I am hopeful for the snow to finally melt early in the week. I’ve not been to the grocery store in over 2 weeks. Laura said she got a text that they will probably have school tomorrow. They have missed one week.
I was happy to flip my calendar to February. I did not look at the monthly pictures so each month I could be surprised. February is for Valentines!
Laura finished her hat so I’m going to try again.
Logan celebrated his birthday with games. I wonder who won this race. Siggie and Logan E. Celebrated with them. Logan and Sigrid are boxing I think.
