Winning Again
This picture is from Halloween 2004. Astrid was in a big Track Meet today at Conway. I was afraid she would not win the mile and the half mile with twelve schools there, but guess what....she won both races. Pop and I get to watch her run on Wednesday as the meet is here.
Eli Washington Cooper
This is the Eli Washington Cooper family. He is the son of John Savage and John is Betty Cooper's brother. He married Sara Arminta Barnes. I think he looks red headed. The house below is where they lived in Shell Knob and then below it is how it looked after it was left uninhabited for many years. Grandpa Powell and Eli were first cousins.
Big Adventure
Looks like Erin took Clayton and Greta to Mrs. Henderson's cabin? Don't ask me what happened to Greta's nose as I don't even know. She may have fell or...... On weekends when Greg works all night, Erin tries to get out of the house for a few hours so he can sleep. Greta goes to his door and pounds on it for him to get up.
Oh, Erin said Greta fell at the zoo. Poor baby. The last photo shows how Clayton feels about this whole adventure.

Golden Suns Volleyball Teams
Astrid and Ingrid both played volleyball with the Golden Suns Teams. They had to "make" the team for their age group. Study the pictures and maybe you can pick out my girls!

Work Day
We spent the day working outside and had some good help--Miss Sigrid. We planted potatoes, onions, cabbage, lettuce, carrots, green peas. Larry, also, worked on the Martin apartments. The red one is the house that blew over in a wind storm late last summer. He moved some of the houses and now, we have 5 on one side of the pond and one the other. Still the Martins are not here and the Sparrows are trying out the houses. We may have to take action against them.

More Gardening
We layed off some rows today and tomorrow several will be planted. We have cabbage and lettuce plants, Alaskan green peas, potatoes, onions, carrots, and maybe a little more! It is supposed to be 70 tomorrow!
The rows will all be exactly the same distance apart. He places one plow in the row already laid off and continues. When it comes time to cultivate the plows will be set so they will till between each of the set rows. Notice the rows are the distance of the tires. The little Farmall Cub has what is called cultivision! Larry has restored this tractor so it looks really good. The red one he has an old man restored and we saw it about 7 years ago. The man's wife died and he quit gardening about a month ago he called Larry and said he would like for him to own it. He really did not have to pay a lot for the red one because the old man wanted someone to own it that would love and care for it like he did.

Ground Breaking
Fleta said she really enjoyed the videos so I am sharing this one of garden breaking today. While Larry was doing this....I was piddling around in the yard.
Re-Cycling
While Larry plowed, I dug some of the grass from around the edge of my garden. Then, I gave it to the chickens. They were so happy. I bet I get a bunch of eggs tomorrow. I got 9 today.
You can see this nasty grass near the edge of the garden. I think it is crab grass. Anyhow, I want to get it out of the garden this year. Larry went to his shop and got a big barrel. He is going to mix grass/weed killer and fill up the barrel. Then, as I want I am going to spray around the edge. We have a big sprayer but it is a day long job getting it all ready and spraying. I think with the little sprayer the wind will not move the killer as easy and it will work better.
You can see my chickens loved the grass. Patsy that dark red chicken is the only one of the big chickens I have left of what you gave me. The two lighter colored ones are cherry eggers and the nurse at school gave them to me two years ago. I only have 2 left and I link she gave me 7 or 8. They do not live as long as Banties. If you click on the photo, you can see my Welsummer banties. I think I have 8 of them. I have about 10 of the old farm banties. They are my favorite. I have the one rooster and he is about 8 years old. I need a young rooster and will watch the farm swap here and try to get some new chickens this year. I like those big red hens because they lay an egg almost everyday...even in the winter.
You can see from the second picture from the top shows Larry tilled about a third of my garden and turned the rest. The part he turned looked so good. I was silently wishing he would turn it all. I guess after 43 years of marriage we think sort of alike as he decided to turn it all over. Tomorrow he will till up at least part of it for me to plant.
His Kubota tractor really can turn the soil. I am really proud we have it. It is really handy and dependable. He used the money out of the 85 blue Ford tractor we had had since about 1988 to buy this one. It is just so much more modern. He says it's much easier to use. Old blue did a good job though and after we had owned it 20 plus years we were able to sell it for almost what we paid for it. Of course though, Larry takes excellent care of all our stuff!
