Sigrid has decorated her room for Christmas. She asked Laura about her living room tree and Laura said—after Thanksgiving. I’m not really a Christmas person. It’s always a sad time for me. We were poor and I hated going back to school and the teacher having everyone tell about what they ‘got’. Sometimes we received a gift and a headscarf from Grandma Gaddy. It was never a joyful time.

I am not much of a Christmas person, most likely because my Mother always invited people over on Christmas eve during what should have been family time....and no family time Christmas Day either because that was Christmas at Grandparents which meant watching little kids or doing dishes. So Christmas is lots of work...and the whole meaning of the birth of our Savior gets lost in all the glitz...and I dislike that part.
