Sigrid's Snaps

Sigrid came yesterday and played with our litter of pups.   I let her take my camera and she had several photos of the Cardinals.  Clayton went to open house tonight and met his teacher.  Greg took a vacation day so both he and Erin could go with Clayton.  Greta is going to daycare when he goes to school so she will think she is a big girl.

Sigrid got the teacher she was hoping for.  I saw her at the library. She was seaching for 3 of the shortest books she could find.  She has 3 more book reports to complete before Monday.

Found Time To Read, though!

This is about the Italians who settled Tontitown.  It is interviews with old, old folks. I really am enjoying it and even doing all that garden work today, I found time to read.

I am reading The Biography of Jerusalem too.  I enjoyed the first part, but when I got to 1000 a.d. I gave up and don't think I can wade through the rest.

4 New Chickens

When we got to Knoxville to get our 5 Black Star chickens he only had 4.  He offered me a Rhode Island Red but I passed.  One of the sex linked red pullets is laying these pretty dark brown eggs.

Today, I put up okra, green beans, made 2 big jugs of tomato juice.  Picked a wagon load of water melons.  I am getting tired of all this GARDEN!  But I know we are lucky to have all the nutritious food.  I fried us a hamburger.  Larry gets 2 and I just east a pattie.  Then I cooked him a pan of okra.  Oh, the okra is so good he said.  He loves vegetables.  I put 3 half gallons of green beans in the freezer.  Lots of shellies in them because they are pole beans.  I get a huge bucket of okra every other day.  I had a 5 gallon bucket of tomatoes.  Would have had that many green beans but shared them with Laura and a neighbor.

Black Star

Larry bought me 5 Black Star chickens tonight unless something unforeseen happens we will get them tomorrow afternoon about 6:30. I hope they look like this hen.  They are sex linked chickens like the Cherry Eggers.  Mine are 1 year old hens.

Getting a Nice Drink

We got a nice rain.  There are even a few mud holes.  I took this during an earlier rain, but tonight's rain was a heavy one.  The garden was smiling.

Sigrid and Her Friend

Sigrid had her friend over to play.  Her name is Marlie and she is very nice.  They picked green beans, gathered the eggs, and played with the pups.  They drove home on the mule.  We let Marlie drive part of the way.

Marlie and Sigrid are in a gifted program this year.  I think one day they go to another school for half a day and learn important stuff.  Sigrid has to go to open house for the program.  She was discussing with her Mom that she had decided this smart person class seemed like it might be a lot of work.  Perhaps she might opt out.  Laura reminded her that Marlie would be there so she is going forward with it work and all.  Sigrid was supposed to read 12 books this summer and do book reports.  She still has about 6 to go.  She told me that she thought she could read all 6 in one day and still get it done.  These are pretty big books.  She calls them chapter books because they have chapters.  She may try to pay Ingrid to read them for her as Ingrid reads all day lots of days and she could rip them off in no time.  I don't know what happens if she does not read all the books she is supposed to.  She may not care what happens.  Motto--why do today what you can put off until tomorrow.

Near The Dan

This is near the Dan River in Virginia.  Our Charles Powell had a farm on the Dan.  I did not imagine it looking like this.  I was thinking bottom land.

Sigrid called and said is Pop there.  I said yes.  Can I come over? Of course.  She came in and said to Pop right curtly.  You said you forgot to pay me.  He gave her a 10 dollar bill.  He went out to work on his tractor and I asked Sigrid what she was getting paid for.  She said she did not know but Pop called her last night and said he forgot to pay her so she wanted her money!

We are getting our heat and air redone in this old house.  Keeping my fingers crossed but looks like it will happen.  They are going to run the duct through the attic so they can get to the room that was once a carport.  Also, I think Larry is putting more insulation in the attic.  Maybe next week it will all get started.  We are getting a Mexican to do the duct work.  He came highly recommended and his fee is right!

Old Ladies Glo

Astrid finished 7th and her Mom finished 70th so that is pretty good!  This run was late at night.   These 3 ladies all have a girl in 8th grade.  I am proud that Laura and Erin are exercising.  Clayton showed me videos that Erin works out to.  Also, sometimes she gets up at 5 and goes down Harrison hill and walks for miles and miles.  I love feeling tired after exercise.  If my knees were still good, I would be a runner today.  I absolutely love it.

Glo Run

Astrid ran a 5 K last night. First in her age group and 3rd female overall.  About 300 runners.  Momma ran too.  The money went to the football program.  Astrid told me she was going to 'lope' along with her friend.  That ended when the gun went off because off she went.  She went back and ran in with her friend, her Mom and her soccer coach after finishing the race.

Street Named For Tommy

Poor Nancy.  That almost looks like Ton behind her but guess I am only dreaming.

Helen says it is Tony behind Nancy.   Glad he was there to support Nancy.
