Peace like a River

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Refrain

It is well, with my soul,
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

Refrain

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:
If Jordan above me shall roll,
No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.

But, Lord, ‘tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
Oh trump of the angel! Oh voice of the Lord!
Blessèd hope, blessèd rest of my soul!

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.

Book Review

The other Betty is always telling about what she is reading.  I got this book today
at the local Library. I requested it. It is about maternal DNA.  I have only read one
chapter, but it is so interesting.  Bryan Sykes wrote the book.  He is a professor at
Oxford and we come from the same old Mother!!  I want to read more but it is my
bedtime.  I am sure Helen will request this book when she gets back to Gilbert, AZ.

All The Way to the Bluff!

There was a chance of rain, but look at the sky.  Astrid and I paddled all the way to the bluff.  It was beautiful.  I am sunburned.  It took an hour and a half to get there and back.

My New Toy

My girls and I are going to have fun with the new toy Larry bought me today.
I already love it.  Just like riding my bicycle.

Good Weekend

Girls gave Clayton a bunch of new toys to him, but his favorite toy was Gigi's cabinet with the pots and pan.  Greg and Pop tried some fishing on the Galla.

Monument

When you are loved
You are remembered!

Jacob Powell

Helen, this is Jacob Powell.  His name was Benjamin, but
he decided he was Jacob and he was.  Jacob was Richard
Powell's Great Uncle. Look it lists Henry and Matilda!!!
Helen, you really should check out this site!

Old Dog New Trick

Fleta taught me something new.  You can save a pdf file, get the file
on your screen, hit printscreen, then go to your photo edit program
and hit control v and there is the pdf and you can save it as a jpeg.

I guess you are never too old to learn.  This is Caroline Coopers death
Certificate.  Our Grandfather Eli found her eating corn from the horse dung
during the Civil War.  Her parents were dead or they ran off and left her.
She was following the Calvary and eating corn with the birds.  He took her
home to Elinda. Then she grew up andmarried John S. Cooper, Grandpa's son.
This says her father was Ben Cuthbert.

Site to Share

This is really a neat site. You can look at the REAL death
certificates of anyone who died in Mo. from 1910 to about 1950-
Helen needs to check it out.  I loved it. I looked for a lot of the
families I research and even found the name of a parent that I
had been searching for

Well, Helen may not like it, and Fleta probably already knows about
it ...so Patsy you go check it out.   Look for Poors. I found some that said
Chris Poor was their father.

Martins

The Martins like their new houses on the pond bank.
We have more than last year.  They did not like me trying
to take a picture.  I saw them feeding the babies in the apt.

Honey Icicles

This is Honey Icicles Siggie said. She offered Pop
a sprig. She pulled out the center...but looking at
it gave her temptation and she popped it in her own mouth
with a smile.

What is wrong with me?

I found out what was wrong with me...
1. I am old.
2. I am fat.

He said just keep taking the acid medicine and go on with
my life.

Home Sick

I am not home sick. I am at home sick. Going to the Dr.
at 2:00.  All my problems will be addressed of which the
worse is my stomache. Erin thinks it may be my gallbladder.
I just wanted some more pills...but Erin says an upper gi
will be ordered.  I have sleep trouble but again I do not think
there is any cure for this.  I think it was my inheritance from Dad.
Then I have all my joint problems but I think there is nothing they
can do.  Some other problems that are just too big to share!

Being a Mother

Both my girls are good Moms. I am proud. What does it
take...I think when the children are young they need
love and protection and when they get older they need
love and let them go. I tried to do both. I did not have
a lot of trouble with the letting go part! tee hee.  Both my
girls have the protection thing down pat.  We'll see about
the letting go in the future!

Happy Mother's Day!

Flood

That tree out in the lake...Maple I think...is the shore.
The tarp that Larry sat under to fish is under water.  We
have had a lot of rain. The road up the Mt. where we live
is washed out and the folks have to drive around to get to
town.  Cloudy today and looks like more rain.

Grandmother was Tara

Our old Grandma has a name--Tara. From the 7 daughters of
Eve. Our ancestor walked out of the Africa 1000s of
years ago--an Az guy wrote this--
"T" refers to what many people (who are Sykes' groupies) refer to as clan mother Tara. Tara is believed to have lived around 17,000 years ago in Northern Italy, although not everyone agrees with this estimate. Tara's people would have come from the Near East, and her descendents spread all over Europe. Tara's ancestral mother, like for all the 7 (or 8) European "Daughters of Eve" (see Sykes, 2001), would have been one woman that left Africa about 100,000 years ago. Nearly 10% of Europe can trace their maternal ancestor to Tara.

I Lied I was reading

Our Mother's DNA is T3 ...we came from Europe...dah!
From Wikipedia--
Haplogroup T is a human mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) haplogroup. Haplogroup T derives from the haplogroup JT, which also gave rise to haplogroup J. Haplogroup T may have originated in Mesopotamia approximately 10,000 years ago, and then moved northwest into Europe and east as far as India. It is found with particularly high concentrations around the eastern Baltic Sea. According to Oxford Ancestors, group T "includes slightly fewer than 10% of modern Europeans. Its many branches are widely distributed throughout southern and western Europe with particularly high concentrations in Ireland and the west of Britain."[1]
In his popular book The Seven Daughters of Eve, Bryan Sykes, who is himself in haplogroup T, named the originator of this group Tara, which means rocky hill in Gaelic. Sykes believes "Tara herself lived 17,000 years ago in the northwest of Italy among the hills of Tuscany and along the estuary of the river Arno."[2]

More Ts
The last Russian tsar, Nicholas II, has been shown to be of haplogroup T This was established when genetic testing was done on his remains to authenticate his identity. Assuming all relevant pedigrees are correct, this includes all female-line descendants of his female line ancestor Barbara of Celje (1390-1451), wife of Sigismund, Holy Roman Emperor. This includes a great number of European nobles, including George I of Great Britain and Frederick William I of Prussia (through the Electress Sophia of Hanover), Charles I of England, George III of the United Kingdom, George V of the United Kingdom, Charles X Gustav of Sweden, Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden, Maurice of Nassau, Prince of Orange, Olav V of Norway, and George I of Greece.

Been Busy Baking

I scrubbed my entire house after work today and baked
up a good dessert for supper.  Right?!?

Things Change

When I was young...I fell asleep and slept like a log.
Now I am old....I can't sleep a lot. I go to sleep, but wake up
in the middle of the night wide awake.

When I was young, I felt sure and confident about the world
and how things are.
Now I am old, I am untrustworthy of most of the things of the
world.  All our days are numbered and my eyes are open.

When I was young, I took a lot of moments for granted--my
own children, husband, job.
Now I am old, I try to relish each good thing that happens.

I am reading a book of devotions. I read one each morning.
Fleta gave in to me in 1995. I had never opened it.  Today I
read about not waiting 'til tomorrow to do what you should today.
I am going to try to read the entire book as I should have in 1995.
Fleta wrote inside--"a sister forever".

Today, I am up at 5:30 getting ready for a hard day.  Made a pot of
coffee...no Elvis cup.  But outside I heard a Whipperwill.  First,
one I have heard in a long time.  He sounded really hopeful.  I am
glad he sang to me.
