October Half Over

Asters bloom on Mount Nebo. I can’t walk miles like I once did but my sweet Laura goes many miles each week. When she spies a pretty flower she sends me a picture. Not like seeing with my own eyes but still so beautiful!

Aster in Greek means “star”. They are in the daisy family and have a starburst arrangement. The bright blue petals surround a yellow center. I think of my own Astrid when I see an aster. But her name does not come from the flower. Astrid is an old Scandinavian name derived from old Norse words.

Last night when I locked my chickens up, I saw the sliver of the moon. 🌙 Sliver is an old English word from split or cleave. But it’s just an illusion as the moon is still whole just hidden from me. Life is like that part we don’t know about but it’s there. If we could see, we could understand. Many things I don’t understand and wish I could just stop thinking about the reasons and answers as I have no control over any of it. I’m just passing through.
Lake Dardanelle last night at sunset. And the 1/4 inch of rain yesterday gave the pasture a small drink. It’s still hot today. Fleta made it down but is Christmas shopping before coming here. I think she enjoys showing more than I do. I’m glad she can shop at different stores when she comes to visit.

Astrid has invited us to go to her favorite nursery tomorrow and then maybe for ice cream! I may buy some pansies!
