Hyacinths

My hyacinths are gone.  Did you know these blooms feed the soul?  A Persian wrote this is the 1200’s.  His name was Din Sadi.

If of thy mortal goods thou art bereft
And from thy slender store
Two loaves alone to thee are left
Sell one, and with the dole
Buy hyacinths and feed the soul.

I need to mow the weeds but it’s so cold I’ll have to wear a big coat and knit cap.  I looked back and the dogwoods were blooming at this time last year.  Oh, well, it will soon be hot so today is just a trifle.

I’m reading about a cold case.  It’s interesting but I realize it’s only a theory.  I like the tv shows about cold cases,  Many are being solved with DNA evidence.  I guess I like a mystery.

Be a Nurse They Said

It will be fun they said.  This month Astrid’s assignment is physic ward.   She was thrilled that on her birthday she finished early and got to go to her workout.  Her workout friends gifted her a cupcake and party hat.  We’ll family celebrate later this evening.  She picked crumb topped apple pie.  Sounds good.

Both my pictures of Astrid has closed eyes.

Ada’s Gift

Erin and Greg gave Ada is little tent for her birthday.  It wasn’t expensive but it was perfect as she loved it.  Her own little place.  She didn’t want her cupcake.  She just wanted to play in her little hiding place.  Gifts that develop imagination are the best gifts, plus puzzles.

Astrid’s Day

Astrid is older today.  Seems just like yesterday she was a little girl coming almost daily to do things with Pop and I.  Happy Birthday.

Visiting Neighbors

When I let my chickens out in the afternoon, they wonder around the yard and out in the horse pasture visiting their neighbors.  This week Astrid and I are getting a few chicks.  I chose a few Olive Eggers.  Most chickens start to lay at 6 to 7 months so it’ll be awhile before I gather olive colored eggs.

Having a Bad Day

Fleta, look at your namesake.  She got your temper.

Kayaking

Laura and Siggie kayaked yesterday on Galla Lake.  Wonder if I could do this?  I like the sound of the word.  Kayak comes from an Inuit word meaning “man-boat” or “hunting boat.” The Inuits, you might know as “Eskimos,” lived around Greenland and used kayaks made from animal skins stretched over wooden or whale-bone frames for transportation, hunting, and fishing. The covered top and a coating of whale fat helped keep icy water outside the boat. To improve buoyancy, Inuit kayakers would lodge seal bladders filled with air in the front and back of the kayak.

The Bradford pears are all abloom.  It’s a new day and a new week.  Hope I can walk straighter than yesterday.

Oh, Deer

Blogger will not let me comment on blogs for some unknown reason.  Guess I’ll keep quiet.  ðŸ¤£ðŸ¤£

Five deer came to Galla Meadow this morning.  They were enjoying those purple weeds that are filling up lawns.  I watched them come nearer and nearer tempted by the lush new growth.

I wanted to see what the deer thought was so tasty.  It’s called Henbit.  You may have some in your yard too.  It blooming now and the blooms are purple.

Henbit is a winter annual, broadleaf weed. It germinates in the fall and actively starts to grow in the cool spring weather when adequate soil moisture is present.  It’s a member of the mint family. Its purple flowers serve as an early source of nectar and pollen for honeybees and bumblebees.

Astrid and Logan Plus Lane

My nephew Lane is a long way from home.  Keep thinking of song Danger Zone.

Highway to the Danger Zone
Gonna take it right into the Danger Zone
Highway to the Danger Zone
Ride into, the Danger Zone

Astrid and Logan attended his sister’s wedding shower today.  She works at a bank and her husband to be is a policeman.

My little patch of phlox is blooming.
I found Larry on the 1950 census living in Newton County, AR.  The census taker skipped my family’s house.  It was off the main road about half a mile and they just went on by.  Here’s a link to the National Archives if you want to look.  It’s pretty easy to use after you figure out the site.

These are my latest daffodils.  Soon they’ll all be gone.  It rained here last night and it 47 * now.  Maybe we’ll reach almost 70 today.  I hope your day is sunny and bright!

No April Fool

I am dreaming of sunny skys and spring flowers, but this morning I woke to frost and ice in the bird bath.  No April Fool.

Ada had the flu.  I stayed one day and Greg took her to the Dr. Yesterday.  She is feeling better and will go back to daycare Monday.  Erin took off today.  It takes a village.
