Phinnie and I went out and took food and water to the chickens and birds. He tasted the snow. You don’t shovel the sidewalk in this snow. Just sweep the snow away. I swept my porches and walks. We did see the sun peeking from the clouds. Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure, He is a shield to them that put their trust in Him.
As I lumbered through the snow, I thought of the phrase—pure as the driven snow. It means being completely pure, clean, and free from any wrongdoing like God’s Word. It dates to the early 1600’s and Shakespeare’s plays. Young folks today would probably think of “driven snow” as dirty—covered with car and truck tracks, but in the 1600’s, it referred to being blow into a drift and untrodden.
O snow, which sinks so light,
Brown earth is hid from sight,
O soul, be thou as white
Be thou as white as snow
