Alpena Pass, AR

I pass through Alpena on my way to Chicken Ridge.
All the stores are these old rock buildings. Carrollton,
AR was a large town until the Railroad missed it and
then Alpena passed it. The Coach of the Little Rock
(UALR) girls basketball team is from this small
town (Foley), as is his wife. Foley learned his transition
basketball style from his mentor who was from this
town also (John Widner).

No, Patsy, and I had wondered why it said Pass...now I don't have to wonder. Carrollton died because the Railroad went through Alpena.......Pass.

Isn't it strange. This picture looks so quaint and appealing. Like and old west town. But, when I drive down this road through the town, it looks old, worn-out and shabby. Mayeb when I drive through the town, I am looking at it with my 'mind's' eye, seeing all the things I know about the town instead of the scene in front of me.

Alpena Pass has found and happy memories for me. I remember when Jim and I took Mom down to see Grandma one time and we passed through Alpena. Jim had missed the whole "Alpena" thing and when Mom told him the real name is Alpena Pass - I had to quickly stop at a restroom for Jim, he was laughing so hard he had to stop. I have a picture of Mom standing under the Alpena Pass sign.
