Arkansas Ouachita Mountains!

Top of the World!
The Ouachita Mountains are fold mountains like the Appalachian Mountains to the east, and were originally part of that range. During the Pennsylvanian part of the Carboniferous period, about 300 million years ago, the coastline of the Gulf of Mexico ran through the central parts of Arkansas. As the South American plate drifted northward, a subduction zone was created in this region. The South American oceanic crust was forced underneath the less-dense North American continental crust. Geologists call this collision the Ouachita orogeny. The collision buckled the continental crust, producing the fold mountains we call the Ouachitas. At one time the Ouachita Mountains were very similar in height to the current elevations of the Rocky Mountains. Due to the Ouachitas' age, the craggy tops have eroded away leaving the low formations that used to be the heart of the mountains. From Wikipedia

Astrid is Awesome!

Astrid and her class made a presentation at the Peabody Hotel in Little Rock yesterday. They presented on what second graders are capable of doing with a computer. It was at the technology conference for educators and administrators across the state. Astrid and her class developed a car wash business and through powerpoint, word, and excell they made their presentation. Astrid's computer teacher, Mr. Yeager, has an A-team out of the class who are his front row and his brightest. Of course, Astrid is one of the A-team. Mr. Yeager describes Astrid as "focused". She did not want any speaking parts but gave her all to the work done on the computer. She really likes Excell and I think her Pop would too if he had access to it. She also is impressive with the Powerpoint and has written some stories in Word. Well I guess I will quit bragging and go to work..

Barber

Sister 4 talks about having a lady come to her house and
cut everyone's hair. We have someone who does that here
on Galla Creek. You can give her a cold drink for her
services or just give her a pat on the back. She does good
work too.

Grandson

In July, I am going to have a grandson. I
have not taken care of a little boy since
I helped Momma with Gilbert. I will not
know what to do. Siggie, Ingie and Astrid
are going to be so tickled to have a little
boy! I just am beyond words. Erin had
said she already knew that she was having
a boy...

Ingrid

This was taken a few years ago.
Ingrid, Astrid and Sigrid are all
different. Ingrid sang a solo at
church Sunday --beautifully.
Today I find out if my 4th Grandchild
is Clayton or Ada? I must remember
to keep my cell phone in my pocket so
Erin can call and tell me. Remembering
anything is a chore for me!

Great Grandmother was born on Dry Creek in
Carroll County AR...the same Creek of my birth.
She married Thomas McCurry and moved
off to Kansas. She was the daughter of Joseph

daughter of Samuel and Anna Bunch Allred
