I thought I grew up poor. What an eye opener to what “black” poverty looks like. Another day, another good book! Viola grew up in Rhode Island. Her father was a groom at a racetrack there. Born in poverty, she had many obstacles to conquer and she did. I enjoyed her memoir.

I grew up poor too, perhaps I will have to read the book. My brother said the other day" We would have starved if it had not been for bread and butter...and we only had butter because of the milk cows"
