Josephine’s Remedies

Josephine Mae (Moulder) Wise (1881-1973) recalled that she was married the year President McKinley was killed. She married W. C. Wise in Green Forest, Arkansas after they had traveled to Berryville to get a wedding license.

Josie Wise was a master at home remedies. She taught those that would listen, “get out before the sap gets too low and get some persimmon bark for a batch of mouth wash. I don’t know how much Wild cherry bark I have boiled down to make cough syrup, and you can’t beat elder bark for salve, and of course sassafras for thinning the blood in the spring is a world beater”. Granny Wise also thought, We’re just gettin too blamed civilized”.

I really think we are too un-civilized myself.

Margie’s right. Josie wrote this long ago. Society now is going back to the Wild West days of—“shoot em if you don’t like em”.
