Curious?

 This is Martha Villines and John Bohannan Harp.  One of her names was Arizona--thus Zone as in Merle's song about his grandmother.  Below is Merle and is Dad James Haggard.  The Haggard roots go back to Barry County, Mo.  I would bet that they are the same family that was associated with Jesse Maples in Tennessee.  He married Mildred Haggard after our grandmother, Jemina Atchley Maples died.  Fleta and I think Mildred was Mima's sister.  She and Jesse were old when they wed.  I found the picture of Merle and his Dad at ancestry.  Some folks load the pictures so small that you can't get a good look, but I can tell Merle looks like his father.  John and Zone Harp were parents to Flossie Mae Harp who married James Francis Haggard.  We are related to John Harp not Arizona.  I think the Haggards are the same family that was associated with our Maples family.  Mr. Haggard that Mildred married I think was a preacher.

Chicken Party In The Grass

 Today I used the panels from a portable dog kennel to make a chicken yard in front of my pen so my chickens could enjoy the green grass.  The Feist dogs will not bother them unless they get right up on them and then they might try to catch one.  I have 10 big hens.  Four black star (a sex link hen) and six red sex linked hens.  I have a bantie rooster and 5 mixed bantie hens.  I have 3 Welsummer hens.  I think I have 18 hens and the rooster.   They loved getting to eat the green grass today.  I sit outside and watched them and read my book for a long time.  I really do like chickens.  I love watching them run for a bug or just scratch for a worm!  I got 8 eggs, 2 bantie and 6 large eggs.

Now, I don't plan to leave that ugly thing in front of my pen.  I just put it there so I could let my hens out of the pen. You can see there is not a blade of grass in their pen.

April 7--Astrid is 14!!

 The grandgirls pick what they want for their birthday.  Ingrid wanted pumpkin pie, Sigrid white cake with lemon filling.  Astrid wanted apple pie and lemon meringue pie.  Laura used granny smith apples and the pie was so good.    Astrid's birthday is not until tomorrow, but the girls will be taking Benchmark tests and will be busy so we celebrated today.

thistle

Last year I purchased thistle for the Finches and they flocked to entertain me.  This year I only have put out sunflower seeds and I have had some visit but not a flock.

Loop De Loo

Poor Erin!  Wisdom teeth removed today.  She is in la la land.  You can see from the picture.  Erin is the smartest girl, even with these four chunks of wisdom gone she is wiser than most of us.  Hope she will feel better tomorrow!  I can see below that Erin is feeling better.

Time Flies

Astrid will be 14 Monday.  It seems like yesterday that we traveled to St. Mary's Hospital at Rogers, AR to see her for the first time.

Growing

 This is my Forgotten Dreams Day Lily garden.  It is really nice this year.

 Onions, peas, cabbage, and potatoes coming up.

 I planted Phlox in this garden.  I will not much it until I see the flowers have really taken hold.

 This is my Aday crystal garden full of old irises.

 Patsy said throw dirt over some of the rose limbs and I did.  It is getting bigger.

 This is where I planted the mums.  They are gone now but I hope they come back this fall.

 Grandma Gaddy hens and chickens garden.  Belwo is the little bulbs the lady from New York (who bought a Feist pup) gave me.

 The above flowers bloom a really nice bluish purple bloom.  My friend Mary gave them to me and I had them at my other house.  I bought some of the seeds and threw them here last fall.  They are up thick.

This is an old book return cart from the OLD Middle school library.  It is on rollers and has 3 shelves.  I am going to use it to keep my laundry supplies on.

Miler

 Astrid got 2nd in the mile yesterday at the track meet.  There were a bunch of girls in the race.  Most milers are skinny little girls.  Astrid runs fast because of her big heart and push!  She has a meet tomorrow at Conway.

Almost Floored!

 Larry has the floor down.  It feels good under my feet.  I swept up some crumbs and was amazed at how it swept.  It has a 25 year guarantee.   That should do it for us!

Floor

Larry is putting my new floor in the kitchen.  Probably tomorrow he will have it all in.  Sure looks better than that green and yellow linoleum that was over 50years old.
