Sumac

Sumac was bright this morning on my walk near Galla Lake.  Sumac is used as a spice, as a dye, and in medicine.

Doesn't sumac turn such pretty colors in the fall! Are the ones you have wild sumac.
My Mom used to grow some she called tame sumac which had completely different shaped leaves than yours. I know it wasn't poison sumac. It was planted around the fishponds in my Mom and Dad's back yard and had very twisty kind of spreading limbs and did not get very tall. It looked so pretty in Fall when the leaves turned orange and red and would reflect in Mom and Dad's fishponds.

Sumac is very pretty in the fall. It brings some color to a dead landscape...thanks to the dry weather we've had.
