Book Review

I haven’t had much luck finding reading material but this week I brought home several.  Bernice Runs Away is a new book by an Arkansas author, Talya Tate Boerner.  She has written two other books I read and enjoyed—“The Accidental Salvation of Gracie Lee” and a nonfiction book, “Gene, Everywhere.”

Bernice Hart is 81 and she has lived her entire life at Savage Crossing, AR.  Her daughter is remodeling a carriage house in her back yard in Georgia and planning for Bernice to move there.  Bernice decides to run away to Lake Norfork near Mountain Home.  She withdraws $20 plus thousand dollars from her bank, her entire life savings.  They give her a money bag with her the cash.  She goes to the funeral home and changes her prepaid funeral to just cremation—4,700 more dollars.  She rents a cabin on the Lake edge, takes her cat Dollie Parton and runs away.  She’s also chasing the memory of an old lost love from summers her family spent at the Lake when she was a teenager.  She locates him.  I don’t even usually care for fiction, but I loved this book.  Like Connie, who always rates her reads and movies watched, I give the book a 9 out of 10.  Donna Wood, I think you’ll like Talya’s new book!

I've read the same two you have already read. I'm sure I will love this one.
