New book~Atchisons

This is Wm. Clarke Quantrill. I bought a new book
that give bios on men who rode with him. He was
what I call a bad dude. But the men were just
following along for the most part. You could not
remain neutral. Maybe it is like that in Iraq today.
Stay neutral and die.

Three men of interest in the book are: Sylvester,
Wiley, and John Atchison. They were with Quantrill
from the start. Wiley's son, Wm. Jefferson, married
into my husband's Cherokee Indian family that I am
researching. I call them the Cherokee Joneses. Her last
name was not Jones. John Atchison had a son named
James Anderson. I figure he was named for Bloody Bill
Anderson and Jesse James, John Atchison's comrades.
He was called Andy. Andy married Lenora Jackson and
they had Alice Atchison, who married Lewis Poor. It has
been interesting reading.

I love reading books about history. I am glad I bought
this one. You know, you can buy a book for what it cost
two people to go see a movie. The books don't have
cuss words, nudity, and are a lot more interesting.

no i don't ride in a buggy at walmarts. mother was crippled so it would have been ok to ride for her but i think i should walk as long as possible. i am much better than i was but even when i was weak i didn't ride in a buggy. i would be interesting in knowing about andy atchinson and quntril. that answers a question i have had for a long time. once when dillard was young he said the family traveled up in mo. and worked there for a while. i ask him who they were related too there and he didn't know. it was very near jessie james home and i thought there might be a contention to jessie james. the reason i thought they had family there, they never traveled anywhere to work unless they had family in the area . dillard didn't know who they were related to there. i did find that jessie james,' mother had a great grand mother named poor. i think maybe there may be a contection with lewis poor's father and quantil but have not found any yet. his name was henry. when dillard was a young boy they had a neighbor on 65 near omaha who was a out law. he was boarding a train at branson mo. and pinkerdan's men killed this guy. dillard remembered him well. his name may have been fletcher. i can google and find out his name.

On October 14, 1930, law enforcement officers captured bank robber-murderer Jake Fleagle at the Branson depot. Fleagle's crimes were committed in Colorado, and Tanya County law officers were little involved in either the search or the capture. The story is, however, of historical interest in the White River Valley, not merely because the final dramatic scene was played out in Branson, but because local people reacted in so many different ways to the realization that men accepted as neighbors turned out to be murderous fugitives. dillard said he was their neighbor and he gave dillard a silver dollar once.

My husband's grandmother, who lived in Yellville, was a James. Her father was named Frank, and he was the namesake of THE Frank James. I never had a chance to question her, but I'll bet she had some interesting stories to tell.

This is fascinating, Sister Three. You and the sisters (and probably your brothers too) have some spunk in her personalities that might have come down from these wild and rugged ancestors.

I'm interested in the name of the book you reference that contains the bios of the Atchisons. Thanks.
