Under the Gum Tree

There are no Sweet Gum balls under my tree
because it is a Black or Tupelo Gum. It grows
in lowlands which is what our Meadow is.

Black Gum is one of the most elegant trees of
the North American lowlands. Like its name, nymph
of the woods, the black gum or tupelo grows more
graceful as the lives of those who fall in love with it
move on from generation to generation. Its fall color
comes early and is unmatched.

That was the Gum tree last year. Like Pat's trees they are not as pretty this year. Half the leaves fell off before they turned red.

Sister I dont have any trees here that turn. The pecan trees turned a tobacco color last year. The picture that is on my blog is one I took last fall. That is the only time since we've lived here that they ever looked like that. We just dont have the color down in the south here. If I could still your gum tree & plant it here, I bet it would quit turning colors! Now what about your daughter.....do you mean she IS going to have a baby? You know Ada is my grandma's name....on Mama's side. Well I aint gonna say I do or dont like the names but let me just say....they make books full of names to pick from!! LOL!! Thanks for checkin on me Sister. I hope all is well with your other sisters. Love ya!

Wow, you can say that again! It is a spectacular tree (well, it was last year anyway).

Love the story ... and "nymph of the woods".

Reminds of the story of my ancestors ... one day a dashing Viking warrior chased a beautiful Briton damsel through the woods of England .. and she fell over, probably deliberately. The rest is well, you know ... we don't talk about it.

My Daddy used to talk about getting a chew of gum from a gum tree. I don't know which kind it was. When I finally got a chew it was HORRIBLE! lol
