Greta is a Goblin

As of this morning, the score is — me 5 and squirrels 0.  I caught the last one that was raiding my bird feeders.  I will set the trap if I see more.  We had a little shower this morning.  I made a cup of coffee and sit on the porch.  I filled my other suet feeder.  Put seed in the flat feeder.  When Laura comes I want to move the Gilbert gut tub flower pot back to its place.  The squirrels were using it like a trampoline to jump onto the feeders, but then they learned to shimmy up the skinny pole and my slinky broke. So I scooted the big tub farther away from the feeders. Never give up in war is my motto.  I was very distressed as the squirrel were beating me.  I set that trap everyday.  I moved it to different spots.  Those last 3 squirrels ignored the trap.  I was baiting it with corn.  Then a light bulb clicked in my head.  The little stickers preferred the black oil sunflower seeds.  Now, I am a winner at last.
Greta is a Goblin.  She had camp this week.  She has a basketball tournament this weekend in Fayetteville.  She is running 20 minutes each day for cross country.  I’m so happy she is involved in school activities.  She attended vacation Bible school this week.  Clayton has a birthday at the end of June.  He’ll be 15.  He’s working some at the gun store and watching Ada when Greta has sports practice.

War with Squirrels

Siggie is getting her little apartment set up.  She can walk to work and is a few blocks from the College.  She has almost completed the steps to be a pharmacy tech.  She’s moving into adulthood.
I feed the birds but it’s impossible with a bunch of squirrels.  I have trapped 4 and I think there’s a fifth, but so far…me 4 and squirrels 1.  I rehome them to a big graveyard with huge trees.  Hope they are happy there as I’m happier without them eating all the bird feed.

Thursday

Astrid made this little plaque for me years ago.  I try to put a recent photo on the clothes pin.  Some of the pictures had curled completely over.  I glued them on card stock and cut them out after the glue dried.  It worked.
I’m crocheting a cord bag.  It’s a first for me.

Mowing Dead Grass

I mowed for over two hours.  Many spots were dead but the yard looks better evened up.  I was covered with dirt when I finished.  It’s 93 today.  It hasn’t rained in 3 weeks. Before that it rained everyday for 3 weeks.

Today I got a perm. My hair has been so unmanageable I decided to try a perm.I’m going to let it grow out below my ears too.

I love having the horses greet me at the fence to get a nose rub.  They come when they see me at the fence.

Visiting Ingrid

Laura and Eric drove to Conway to see Ingrid. She starts her Nuclear Medicine work July 5.  She’s idle til then.  Soon she’ll be busy again.

It’s hard for me to just be quiet, but it’s best.  People tell you about a situation, just listen and nod.  When you respond in negative it just creates a barrier.  So just swallow your words.  Delete the entire thought.  Ok?

Old South Burned

Russellville is know for this old restaurant.  It was built in 1947 and had big billboards up that said two presidents and a king had dined with them.  That was Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter and Elvis.  Their specialty was southern food and old south dressing.  It was made with real garlic and similar to ranch but thicker.

I’ve eaten here many times.  Before the pandemic, they stayed open over night, but that ended with the virus.  A gentleman and his nephew leased is several years back, and really turned it around.  It had declined til they took it on.  It was very successful because one of the two was always there making sure things were going well.  They served a delicious breakfast and old codgers would gather at a round booth here daily and talk politics and other gossip.  Larry used to join them!

At one PM last night the fire trucks arrived as the place was burning.  75 years of soaked in grease made it go up fast.  It was a total loss.  It’ll be missed by many!

June’s Full Moon

The Strawberry moon is full. This morning at 5:30 I could see it from the porch.  The Native Americans called it this because wild strawberries ripen under this moon.  The Cherokee called it the Green corn moon.

Sister Helen leaves tomorrow for Washington state.  She is traveling alone.  Traveling mercies for her.

Engaged

Ingrid and Justin are engaged.  They make a lovely couple.  Her friend Briley took these pictures for them. Making a life together!

Funny

Funny how little minds work.  Ada thought her poncho was a blanket.  She was ready for bed and getting to watch a show in her parents’ room.   I’m cold she dais and put on her poncho.  She said her Grandmother made it for her. Guess she thinks I made a blanket with a hole in the middle.

Girlfriend

Astrid has added turkeys to her flock.  Gobble Gobble.  My Dad loved them.  He would be pleased.
My girlfriend came today. She called me Grandma instead of Gigi.  I liked the new name.  Erin took her to the park on the way home.  We had Taco Villa—Erin’s fav!
Laura and Eric should be home tomorrow.  They landed in Chicago and are on the road now.

Coat of Many Colors

Made a little fall poncho for the head honcho.  I get to see her tomorrow.  The big kids aren’t coming as they’d rather go swimming.  Can’t blame ‘em as it’s getting hot.  94 here today.  Haven’t had a drop of rain in two weeks.
Sigrid is all about modesty.  She’s  doing what she can in Norway to improve the scenery. 🤭

Norway

Another beautiful old church.  Most people here are Lutheran or Catholic.

Hope the three Norwegians are enjoying Norway.  Tomorrow is their last day there.  They got to visit the place two of Eric’s family lines lived.  Sigrid is homesick I think.  She always misses home.
Looks so clean there.
