Sandy’s family and mine were neighbors growing up near Green Forest. Her brother, Billy, was in my class. Sister Helen went to M D Anderson with her when she had treatments there just so she wouldn’t be alone. So many are going too soon.

My mother's Aunt Ada lived in Springdale. She loved to talk about the time her whole family went to visit her in their Model T. That was a long way to drive, and I think they only stayed one day and one night. They lived very simply, in a cabin. As poor as they were, though, they had a Victrola the kids loved to listen to during their visit.
