Helen’s Remodel or Hats off to Sister

Helen’s remodeling again!  She lives in the old house where we were born.  Daddy built it in 1948.  It had 3 bedrooms.  The room she has redone was the “back” bedroom.  Our bedrooms were 12 x 12 I think quite small.
Until my brother passed away he lived here and remodeled some.  Clayton was college educated but not a carpenter.  He took out some load baring walls.  Nothing can be done about that now.  He made this bedroom bigger by adding what was our smoke house to the room by taking out a wall.  Helen’s Ceilings had some problems too.  The shingled roof started to leak.  She used her stimulus money and added a tin roof.  Friends and relatives provided the labor and she bought materials.  She’s putting some cross broads on the ceiling where it had sagged.

She put down the laminate floor entirely by herself.  My nephew came and put an oak board where the floor of the old bedroom met the floor of the cement porch.  They were not exactly the same height so he screwed this oak board over to secure them together.
This part is our old smoke house.
Sister Helen does not pay rent, but she is paying for the things she is doing.  She says she has lived here since 2014 and wants to leave the house in better shape than she found.
Sister Helen doesn’t know “can’t”.   She used to ride to Arkansas with her husband and children on a motorcycle.  Many things she does, I would never attempt.
Helen is also a cancer survivor and she has asthma.  I am amazed at all she does.

This shows the oak board that holds the transition together between the two sections of the room.

She has done a great job.
We lived in an old house (over 100 years old) once and remodeled it, added an addition of a bathroom and a family room. It took us a while but it was fun.
That was back in the 90's.

Sounds like Helen can do anything she puts her mind to!
